Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I really do need to get around to watching Elephant Man. Thanks for the reminder!

So I posted mine movie presentation a rush earlier today so I could get the Health History and Assessment started. Anyone else post things and then go back and find stupid typos after it is too late? Argh, kicking myself! Glad this instructor grades super easy. Oh and yeah, we got 100% on our subpar CLC.

Yes, I have but in the totality of the entire assignment a few typos are a minor problem. Sit back and marvel at what you have accomplished but get to work on the next assignment!!

Just an observation, the highest score I have gotten on a CLC assignment is the one that I felt was not worthy of submitting for a grade.... How does that work?

My health assessment is complete and submitted so after 2 substantive posts tomorrow this class is DONE!

And yes there were multiple typos in my previous post. Too much screen time today.

You you seem to be correct about the grading system. I think we are trying too hard.

I thought the movie character project was awesome. I did Steel Magnolias, which believe it or not I had never seen. I watched it first just to see the movie, then watched it again with my list of 11 FHPs in-hand and a pen to take notes with a nurse's eye”. It was very interesting to see others' projects on the same movie to see how we all saw things a bit differently, or focused on different points of view. It was kind of like real-life in nursing in that it takes a myriad of interdisciplinaries (probably not a word but you get my meaning) to really SEE a patient and be able to care for someone from many different angles in so many areas where they need support. Sure, it was technically about T1DM, but the project opened my eyes to the person behind a disease, what their nonmedical struggles are, and what patients' families go through.

So many things in this program have taught me to view things differently. Healing hospitals, leadership and management, the health of communities, cultural awareness and nursing competence, the responsibilities and obligations I carry simply for choosing this profession, and on and on. As much as I have grumbled at the particulars of any given assignment or focused on the frustration at the individual level, I can honestly say (which I doubted before and sometimes during) that I am a better nurse having had this experience. Patients are multidimensional, as I must be to meet their needs. When I step back and look at my program in its entirety, I have grown; I recognize things, almost automatically, that I either couldn't see before or just didn't see the need for the extra effort. This was a tough sell for me in the beginning, after having been a nurse for >20 years, but now that I'm nearly done? So worth it. And, after perusing other school forums on AN, I'm positive I chose the right program for me

I'm probably going to be toasted alive for this, but there IS a difference in the ADN and BSN. I never noticed it before. Like you, after 20 plus years of nursing, I thought I knew most everything. That certainly wasn't the case. :)

ok, I think this was discussed fairly recently, but right now I have PPT brain......

Which class is writing heavy vs PPT heavy - ethics or spirituality? I am thinking of overlapping these classes 2-3 wks so I will be done by the time I head back to the US for R&R this summer.

Thanks!

I just answered this on the other thread lol. I think spirituality is paper heavy

I saw in previous posts - but having done them, do you think it is possible to overlap them 2-3 week?

I know I may have my nose to the grindstone, but to be able to not have to worry about school when I have to make a 30 hour flight home, then totally switch hours that I function I am trying to figure out a way to minimize the amount of school. Hope that makes sense.

I have overlapped a week or two for several classes on the last half of the program. The trick is to try and get ahead on the first class so you basically only have to do DQ responses for that class as you're beginning the next. I have shaved several weeks off my finish date by doubling up.......4 more weeks and counting!

That is my thought process - to do the same thing. Work like the dickens to get ahead in ethics so I can start spirituality with a chunk of ethics ready to rock. Will be looking at my calendar today to see how much I have to overlap to be able to head back to the US without school hanging over my head. It will be a 4 wk leave then. I know it will put me a bit behind in my graduation date, but to be able to spend time with our family after being gone for a year is more important.

Those were the two I overlapped two weeks on, and then at the end of ethics overlapped leadership.

Just answered on the other thread, but it seems doable. Spirituality picks up in week 4 and 5, so if you got a jump, and don't mind working hard, I would think it doable.
