Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
No--u paid for the E-books--thats ur $110 Electronic service fee......how to initiate it--should be on ur school email. It has the redemption code u need..and the step by step instructions!!
Nope, no email. Does the email come after the start of the course? It could also be an issue with how my work scholarship pays (not until the last drop date.) Either way won't be able to call until tomorrow.
Thanks!
Well looking back....I received the email Oct 1 2013 and the course started Sep 30th 2013......I would contact ur advisor to play it safe tomorrow.
Welcome J2!! These 2 threads will give you valuable information and if you don't find what you are looking for, just ask! I enjoy the online format of the classes and as long as you don't fall behind in your assignments, you should do fine. The classes are not hard, they just require your time and effort (maybe I shouldn't say that until I have taken stats). Best of luck to you as you begin this journey!
I am on my own, and rather go that way, just the way I am....Many profs won't let you for your own groups anyways..some do, so it does not hurt to ask. My advice is find a GCU Rn to BSN FB group.....lot of good info......I started one and has helped me a bit....Especially on finding good profs..and ones to stay away fromread the RUBRIC....it more or less states what has to be on the paper for full marks!!
Try and do ur Discussion Questions (DQs) early! I usually do them on the weekend, and 1st thing Monday morning hand both in! Most prof require at least 1 reference in the DQs and ur responses..but not all!! Usually under the top right ANNOUNCEMENT heading they post their requirements....Not hard to come up with a reference, lol
Group projects can be very easy with a good group....but quite often u get at least 1 slacker.....For each group project, at the beginning one has to make up a contract--on who does what, what happens if they do not do that....One HAS to be very specific, if not, and u get a slacker who does not participate...and u goto the prof..some profs will just say---what does ur contract state?.......You think at this stage in the game, people would be adults...but no,,,most are great, but when ur in a small group, 1 slacker can ruin ur day!! Thats why I try to take the lead, get the ball rolling ASAP, get everyone's taskings known, and then leave them alone, lol But u will fine, some in the group won't email back right away, so that fast start you want, does not happen......
and keep in mind that the Prof can see ur group forum posts.....so it is to ones best interest to watch what u say,lol and lay everything out there...so if u do have a slacker, the prof can see that....
Papers: I like the APA tool PERRLA...it helps you with the layout of ur references...and it keeps them all...so a few courses down the road, you remember you used one, book...its already in the PERRLA memory..it is not perfect....as you still have to enter in the info and pick out the correct type of source it is. On the GCU webpage, do a search of APA layout and it will show you how they want the title page and the rest laid out
Ensure you look over the requirements for the week early on...and ask questions early on--some profs are slow at replying back and some almost refuse to do it on a weekend
You hand in most papers FIRST, into the anti-plagiarism program"turn it in" It can sometimes take awhile to get the "report received" message back (refresh ur screen now and then) Normally takes a few minutes, but if they are busy can be awhile, so waiting at last minute to turn in ur paper is not advised, lol Once u receive that report received msg..and ur happy with the similarity score(think it has to be below 20%) then u submit it to the prof. On ur weekly calendar, if it has been successfully submitted, a GREEN check mark should be by the assignment...same goes for ur DQs.....on group projects, the person that has handed it in, is the ONLY 1 that sees the green check mark.
I highly recommend you take a screen shot of all ur classes...as I swear a few of mine have changed! Just the 2 ones I can test out of, but weird that they have changed
As well keep an eye on the profs..especially if it is 1 u want...as they can change...even right up to the start of class!!
And don't forget that GCU has free tutors available......Some found them handy for Stats..and I think I recall someone on here or the other forum mentioning another service that was much better
And don't forget about using the online Librarians! They can be awesome when it comes to finding resources..
Best of luck
Flames, Pandora and I were in every clc together, except the first one, because we didn't know. Not one had a problem.
J2 it took me the first class to get the Book link, but call your advisor and get your link.
I did not say all,lol I know in 2 other classes, people asked, and the prof said no. One can always ask......

it took 2 days for the email link when I started. If I remember the first week there is no assignment but like others have said, ring up your advisor.

Oh owch, no no no names or specifics on this public forum .
All Professors/Instructors are different, just read through her Announcements and be sure to heed every directive she gives you. That is where I've seen most students get derailed - they ask questions to the Prof in the public Q&A forum when it was clearly spelled out in their Announcements. *READ*EVERY*WORD* You'll learn what their expectations are, how they will grade your DQs, what they consider a substantive reply, etc. Good luck, you will be fine!!!! :)
