Hi again everyone!

i was just wondering if anyone out there has completed the Grand Canyon University RN-BSN online bridge program. i was wondering how time-demanding it is, the approximate cost, as well as the difficulty of completion while working full time.

please let me know what you all think....

thank you!

I don't know if you still want a response to your question. I am in the program right now. I am in Class #10 of 15 so I am getting there. I get tuition reimbursement so I am taking one class at a time so I don't have to pay out of pocket. I am taking a break after this class since I am almost out of tuition money. I have two school grade children and am involved in some committees at work so find taking one class at a time plenty. I am looking forward to being done to have more time with my kids. I have done 2 classes at a time once and it is pretty busy at that pace but many people do it. I am thinking of doing 2 at a time late this year early in 2009 just to get finished faster. It gets easier with time because it is a lot of writing papers and eventually you just get good at it. Statistics was more of a challenge since it is a lot of work to do in 8 weeks. Some classes are easier than others. I am doing it online so work it in as best as I can. It will be worth it in the end and find I often read research articles that are very practical to my patients at work. I like the program but will be glad when my husband and I stop fighting over me being in school. It is getting old for him since I have been in school off and on (more on than off) for the last 6 years. Good luck in your decision.

Hi,

I am a 2006 graduate of the program as well as 2008 MSN grad and currently in the NP program. The education you will recieve is awesome and well worth the effort. The papers can be demanding but the program is very doable for a fulltimer with a family. Commitment is the key

Best of luck

How long is this program?

I am interested in this program as well. I want to continue on once I get my ASN which will be soon, so if anyone can offer me any thoughts on the program and its length I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

What is your school schedule like? Can you work while in school? Thanks

I am currently doing my classes on line. Many students take 2 classes each 8 weeks which is doable while working full time. I do not like to take more than 1 class at a time. It takes longer but I still have responsiblities at home with my children, helping them with their homework etc... so find it easier to manage while only taking one class at a time. But certainly working full time is not a problem. I find it easier to manage everything doing classes on line as it has more flexibility to work around my families schedule and still take classes without having to be out of the home to attend class. I am already doing (3) 12 hour shifts each week when I do not see my family and don't want to add to that by doing classes in person. But it is up to each person how they approach taking classes.

I would like to trytaking 2 classes at a time. Which classes do you consider easier? Thanks

Do not take statistics with any other class!!!! Any of the other classes may be OK though. Health Assessment requires a lot of documentation when you take it on line so may not be the best to take along with another class either. Patho if you have not take it yet might be another you do not want to take at the same time as another class either. The rest might be OK but you may want to take just one at a time at first until you get the hang of things and are better able to assess work load and personal life balance along with a full time work schedule.

Thanks so much for your input. I just started taking classes and they won't let you double up until you've completed 1 semester. Not a bad idea - then you're not as likely to get in over your head. I think I'll go into seclusion when I take statistics. I'm a living example of math anxiety!

Well good luck in your program. I plan to be done by Summer and am looking forward to finishing but must say that I have enjoyed the program. That is weird that they make you take a semester first. When I started they were pushing for 2 courses at a time but I wanted to take it slower for a variety of reasons. Dont worry about the statistics it is not as bad as that but I definitely worked harder on that class than any other. My husband says a lot of people have Math phobia and need to embrace it. He is a computer geek and has taken Statistics and thought he would be able to help me but he didnt remember much and said it was different (more applied approach) But I made it through with GPA intact so don't worry it is possible. I was glad to get it out of the way though. I suggest getting the study guide...it helped to narrow down the key points and gave practice questions that were helpful to prepare for the exams.

Do they allow you to take the whole course online? I've been wanting to get more information from them, but been evading their calls since I expressed interest in it last year. They've been pretty persistent altho I'm still considering it. :)
