Whew! Took the GCU HESI exam today and did good! What a relief to have this part over with! Now I'm getting excited that nursing school could be a reality in the near future, hopefully fall 2016 (4 months away?) Started the pre req process just about 3 years ago now. Anyone else applying to GCU's fall cohort?? Since the application deadline is May 15th we should find out early to mid June if we were accepted
An update to what your schedule will be like in the fall-Our professor just told us what it will be like for the level 1's. 3 2hr labs (i'm assuming per week) and 1 clinical per week for 5 weeks. And then 4 lecture classes 2 hrs per class (will probably be split between 2 days like it is now). I think this is much better than they way they did it for us.
Thanks for the update. Is this different because they added the clinical or are you saying the labs and clinicals will be during certain weeks and the lecture will be during another time? I know some schools will do lectures first and then clinicals come later.
I did notice that they changed all of the class name and numbers and it actually looks like they added more work in block four.
So right now for us we have 2 lecture classes tuesdays and 2 lecture classes thursdays. Friday 12-3 lab and we used to have Wednesday 1:30-3:30 Pharm lab, but that was only for 8 weeks, we don't have clinicals in level 1. With changes they have made for incoming level 1's you will have lectures, labs and clinicals but I assume the clinicals will come later on especially since its only for 5 weeks. Your lecture classes will be shorter (only 2hrs each) ours are 3-4hrs each Do you have the new schedule?? I know some stuff changed for us when we go to level 2 but she didn't elaborate, I would love to know what it looks like for next semester. They did say some of the class names and course numbers changed. You will mainly have Professor Tovar for all lecture classes except Therapeutic communications. She told us that she will be teaching those classes in fall for level 1.
Ok. Thanks! I hope with the shorter lectures we will still be getting all of the same info somehow. But a 4 hour lecture? My rear would hurt so much. I still don't have a schedule but the website has all of the new classes listed on it. I think it looks like quite a lot has changed.
I was so bummed to find out that Global Health was gone because my class load was going to be so much lighter next summer. Now it's not and there is no week long thanksgiving/spring break in the summer. I'm trying to make the best of it but my kids will be so bored.
You will definitely get all of the info, we had 2 or 3 breaks 10-15 minutes each. And in therapeutic communications and Foundations there wasn't enough info to fill the time. Even the professors said it. Although foundations will be different for you guys since they changed the curriculum for that one. 2 hrs is plenty of time for Pharm and Health Assessment.
The classes to make you Tier 1 need to be the prereqs so psych minor classes wont count. I have a psych major at GCU and only 2 classes counted. I was Tier 2. If you have C's in your prereqs I would retake that class for a better grade. Your GPA being higher is important too. Have you printed out your Nursing Checklist under the nursing majors tab in your student portal? It's under Academics
Those classes listed on there are the ones that count for Tier 1 and toward your GPA. This has been my experience. I know we all get a lot of different info.

So, I just started MAT274 and there are at least 3 other people who got put on the alternate list. They must have really had a bunch of applications submitted!
I decided that if I have to wait another semester, I am going to work on a minor since I have 2/5 classes already done for the psychology minor GCU offers.
