Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
I can understand your frustrations about the instructors but the list going around has been quite useless for most of us. Only one of my instructors were on the list so it was not helpful. The best strategy is to open the classroom the Friday or Saturday before and look for extra or unrealistic changes the instructor adds to the curriculum. Stuff like "will take off 20% for APA errors", or "No questions about assignment requirements will be answered." Just stuff that does not fit with the usual GCU requirements. If you get one of these instructors then do not post in that class and get in touch with your advisor and state you want to be removed and wish to have a new instructor. The classes are set by GCU and the instructors are merely facilitators. They grade papers and make sure that the class functions. You will get a instructor or two that will be great and very helpful, but it is not the norm.
Hope this helps calm some stress.
Yep, never had a list. In fact one instructor that I had twice, and liked, was the instructor from hell for another AN person.
Most, imo, really try to help, and are pretty good.
Hey tokmom!!!Just wanted to let you know that my clinical instructor for my RN Refresher course graduated from GCU in 2014 just like us!! She said my name looked familiar and perhaps we had been in a class together....I did look, but I don't think so.
Been living abroad since 2011 and now back in the USA. Started an online RN refresher course in March. Should have taken it in the classroom..would have been quicker...not that I am in a hurry to work, lol Classroom option, meeting 2 evening a week for a month, then 2 weekends of labs and then 4 weekends of clinicals! The online class started in early March, but does not end until the end of June..then the same labs/clinicals.....All exams are open book. Whats the routine like for your refresher?
Yeah, get those articles NOW. Take a few hours and get them printed out and ready. I recommend printing so you can have them at your instant disposal and can write highlights in the margins. It sure made things more organized. Once you get past the literature review, the other papers go pretty quickly.
believe 8 out of the 15 have to be research based.....and of course fairly recent..believe 5 yrs is the magic #, but that can be adjusted for some profs (1 has to ask) Look at week 2..there is (or was) an example of the format used for the week 2 literature review, could probably use that for week 1 quick Lit review.......You may also want to ask the prof on word count for the Lit reviews....as it is not a lot..mine didnt care......I also messaged the prof right away if my PICOT statement was acceptable.....did not want to waste time and do a bunch of work..only to find she did not approve,lol.. I was fortunate that she provided feedback and approval right away. Capstone is a lot of work....I think my paper was around 40 pages from start to end.....but if you have a topic that your interested in, it really flies...I think I found capstone easier than a few other classes as I enjoyed the topic I had....In other classes, one was "playing the game" and had little motivation. Oh ya..don't be afraid to ask the librarians for help in finding articles! i found it best to email them, vice live chat..as they provided more resources via email! I also used RefWorks (free from GCU library) to organize my Articles! As well most sources have an EXPORT feature..which you can export the info to Refworks.....saves a lot of time!! I still used PERRLA for my citations/reference page, but someone told me Refworks can even do that, but not sure. And make sure ur saving ur stuff in multiple places.....computers tend to crash at the worst possible time!! Bonus: believe 1 of the weeks DQS..was very similar to the statistic class DQ,lol Good luck.
