Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Well it was not a 92% powerpoint! Just lucky the prof was nice! My advice..keep everything on the school page--so the prof can see that YOU are trying!! If after awhile, you just have to assign tasks..nothing, then one has to head to the prof and say hey...no support from my numpties!!

People in these groups "should" (thats funny) that not everyone has the same schedule..family size, etc etc! All it takes at the beginning is to say "hey I work Mon-Thurs, so I'm busy, etc, etc" Just common courtesy......but many lack that!!

This isn't just great advice for me, it is for everyone effected by the dreaded CLC Assignments.

I am back wanting to take charge of the assignments again. At least they would be organized.

Exactly! Yes, there always seems to be one slacker in every group. My biggest grip is that you can see them posting to the discussion forum, yet they do not post on the group forum to even acknowledge they have read the updates or changes. Do they not think we all can see that?

......I digress.........

Last group we had one who not only slacked in communication, but when she was called out for not doing her topic correctly - actually did someone else's topic, and a 'patient care plan' (whatever the heck that was!), rather than a nursing care plan, argued she did what she was supposed to. Two of us picked up and did the slides so the presentation was complete.

We kept all communication on the forum for the specific reason the prof would know. I would even put a note on the forum that I had texted everyone to check for updates. Now get this.....I am living in Australia and texting group members to look for updates. Really?!?!

Ok...... off my group soapbox for a week or so. LOL

This is sooo funny. The same thing happened to me last class. She said that there were too many posts and couldn't figure out which one she needed to read for her assignment.....

LOOK FOR THE BLUE FORUM TOPIC MARKED "POWER POINT ASSIGNMENTS" AND READ IT!!!!!

It was so funny. Another classmate sent me a message stating how full of crap she was, it was the most organized project she has seen yet.

I am glad that there is always one in my group that has similar interests as me. I have not been alone yet in a CLC project, but the day may come.

Is there anyone following this forum, looking at a mid-March start date?

I am trying hard to get myself an avatar....

PrismRN, could you please tell more about those three individual assignments? How did you go through it? I have just started this class and have a little panic anticipating last week...

PrismRN[/url]. I, too, have traumatic memories of that CLC assignment. It was so confusing, and we had one team member that just wasn't getting it. This was the one and only time we had to kick someone to the curb on Saturday night and the remaining ones all took those pieces and did them on Sunday to turn in that night. I remember the assignment being unclear about the interviews; did they want one or two? What did they consider the difference between a public health provider and a community health provider? Our Prof said we needed two, so we did two. Like derk, ours was a massive amount of information. It ended up being 21 slides with 24 references. And, we turned in 6 things to the assignment dropbox. And just when you think the nightmare is over, here comes week 5 with 3 indivdual assignments due on that last day. Augh!

So yeah, we never could figure out what a summary table was, we just put every bit of info in regular slide form (headers, bullet points, speaker notes), and made sure we hit all the topics. We started with a basic demographic slide about the community, then a slide on the phenomenological features, then went into a bunch of slides on the 11 individual FHPs, then some slides summarizing the interviews, then a conclusion summary with key findings about the community and its general health as a community (pulled from info earlier in the ppt). It was enormous.

Oh, and who's the unlucky sap that got ALL the FHPs to do?? Ouch! How many ppl are in your group? if you do the interview & one person does all the FHPs, what are the others doing?

Yes, will offer what I can so you can avert the drama I went through that last week. First of all, it looks like 3 assignments/tasks, but it's really 5. It's just way too much stuff to cram into 7 days, so do yourself a favor (since you just started the class and you have a few weeks) and figure out your teaching topic now. Then get busy on the work plan proposal. That is the document that is basically saying what you're going to do, how you're going to do it, and the rationale behind it all. I just looked at mine, it was 1800 words. THEN (task 2), you have to show your masterpiece to a PH/CH provider and get their feedback on it (this is the "hidden" assignment that doesn't really stand out, but it's there). They have to complete/sign that form confirming they read it and offered their opinion. This is one of the things that jams up week 5 if you wait -- Doing your own work is one thing, but these assignments require the scheduling of other people, so best not to wait until week 5. The 3rd thing is the actual powerpoint or pamphlet or poster or whatever you're going to create. The 4th thing is the actual teaching experience itself (going out and doing your community presentation - again, has to be scheduled, relying on other peoples' schedules and hoping you can get that done by Thursday or whatever & leave yourself enough time for task 5). Then, 5th & final project is the 1500-2000w paper that incorporates parts of your initial work plan proposal and the rationale behind what you chose to present, summarizes the event itself, how it went, what went well or didn't, what you might have changed, etc etc etc.

That week was really awful for me trying to get my proposal done and viewed by someone (at their availability), then creating my visual aid and getting it printed for the audience (I did a pamphlet/flyer/handout thing), then showing up to DO the gig, then writing a big ol' paper all by Sunday (oh, and working M-F while I was at it). Just sayin', start now! LOL

Why did gcu think it was ok to turn a group project into a solo gig? Scary beans, I tell ya.

This assignment was mind boggling enough as a clc and we didn't have to present ours to real people.

Good question, but once I knew that (that the last 2 wks used to be a CLC), and kept that in mind as I was trying to decipher the assignment descriptions, it made sense why the descriptions didn't really make sense. Does that make sense? LOL

Oh, I thank you sooo much!!!!! Even though it is a lot of work, but now at least it became clear to me how to do it step by step. And, now it does not seem so mind devastating )))) Thanks again!

Now, my question is about " PH/CH provider ". Let's say, I will go to my local public school to do my presentation. Will the school Nurse be the one who should give me a feedback for my teaching proposal? And, who should sign the Community Teaching Experience: principal or school Nurse? Greatly appreciate your help!
