Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Ooohhh that IRB (insert duh look). Prism, was that ever mandatory for you? It was not for us, that I recall. I obviously have forgotten or the instructor didn't stress it enough. We were more wrapped up in getting the type of research correct.

Cannot stress the GCU librarians enough. Amazing folk who can give you links in seconds.

Well I'm thinking it must've been at some point otherwise why would I even know that? LOL I certainly don't google stuff like that just for my own curiosity so someone must've made me do it! Man some things are already a blur even though they were only but a wee few months ago...

You guys so fast! Yes, I found it in the article under the methods section. it clearly says " Institutional Review board approval.." yeah it was one of the guidelines to write the paper on the ethical considerations. I emailed to Librarian as well. got some general comprehensive information, but not for particular info of nursing research..

Again tokmom and Prism, you are so fast and I like that :)

It should say somewhere in the article that the research was approved by the Institutional Review Board/IRB. Does your research article involve human subjects? Not all research requires IRB oversight. Also, other countries may use different names for the same/similar requirements, such as independent ethics committee/IEC, ethical review board/ERB or research ethics board/REB. If those words are not mentioned anywhere in your article, chances are it either wasn't, or didn't require it based on the type of research it was. Or, it may make me question the article altogether in which case I'd pitch it and start with a new one where it is clearly documented.

Have you ever called the GCU library for article search help? Those people R*O*C*K, you just give them a description of what you're looking for and they will stay with you on the phone while they search through possibilities and you say Yay or Nay, then they'll email them directly to you. I wasted a whole Saturday once trying to find something, and finally called them and they found what I needed in 5 minutes. Keep in mind these assignments rarely change, so the library folks (who all have Masters degrees btw) have searched your subject 100x before and totally know what you need.

Tell me about memory loss!:crying2: You, my dear have a memory like a freaking sponge.

I really don't think mine instructor stressed it, but the more I think about it, something vague is in the back of my brain that says it had to be approved. Oh heck, who knows. I seemed to get it correct, lol.

You are right! they are great

Well, I'm stuck at home during a nasty windstorm trying to occupy my mind and not think about the 80 foot fir trees swinging in the breeze :chair:

tokmom, You remembered what I was talking about was the ethical consideration! that is a quite memory. I forgot almost everything once I finished all the previous coursework..

No no no you're not doing it right LOL, you have to call them. I can't afford to waste any time these days (well, except on AN), and there are a myriad of issues with electronic communication. They may have misunderstood your focus or perhaps the explanation could have been clearer. I stress stress stress that if any of you need library help to call them - they are fantastically enthusiastic (honestly they sound like they're having fun at work - I'm not familiar with that concept), this is definitely not the library of yester-year. And the other benefit is that while you are on the phone they will walk you through whatever they are looking and, and how they got there, so not only can you eyeball the ones that they are seeing, but you will get tips & tricks on how to better search yourself next time. Pick up the phone, young`uns!

Well this is not normal LOL, tokmom is hiding from a storm and I am hiding from my PowerPoint! I've spent all day making it pretty, changing fonts, shadowing and beveling pictures, finding more pictures, shadowing and beveling those, and I HAVE NO CONTENT. But it looks fabulous! :woot:

Yes, very true on the library. I did the chat thing a few times, but you have to be very clear, otherwise they may not send you in the right direction. However, calling them is waaay more beneficial. They helped me with the correct words to put in the boxes so I could do my own search and actually get a hit.

LOL! I really do miss that part of the power point. All those pretty bevels and fonts to make my pictures look so purty :heartbeat:. I oogled those power point like a mother her newborn, lol. My first one was on TB which Prism can attest to, I was mighty proud of. :inlove:

My own power points had vintage nursing pictures which scored well with the instructors. Even my capstone had them. The professor even sent me a pm telling me how much she enjoyed them
