Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Thanks guys! It feels weird not having something to turn in today:unsure:

Thanks for the input everyone, I knew the answer to my question before I even asked it. I must do what I can to fix the errors. I worked on it last night for hours, and have spent this afternoon working on it. It ****** me off that all I was supposed to do was put the PP together and edit it for correctness. I never signed up to rewrite everyone's posts. I will be creative about it.

I was really hoping this wouldn't happen to you :blackeye:. Is this the ppt on nursing theorists?

What about it stinks, exactly? Are they quoting too much?

Thanks for your kind words. Yes it is the PP on nursing theorists. two major problems with the submissions I got. First each slide had a specific topic that was to be covered. Many of the slides have nothing to do with anything. I guess it is my opinion but Fred, my donkey, says I am preeeety smaaart. I got a full page dissertation from one person and no bullet points. That would be great but the dissertation doesn't flow and his ideas were all over the place. I actually chopped his submission in parts, used them as notes and created my own bullet points to match.

Secondly, most everyone, excluding the dissertation, just copied and pasted from some website or the text book. Some times there were quotations, sometimes not. Where I have been able to put quotations I did and made sure the citations were correct. The funny thing is if they were cited near correctly I would never have known that it was merely a cut and paste job. Who starts a reference to a website with the [(date). Webpage name. Name of theorist. Retrieved from.] UuuuuGH!

I decided to nix the pictures, because giving credit for the pictures used will take too much time. I don't feel correct cutting random pictures from the web and using them in the PP.

Relaxing a little here on AN before I continue the good fight.

I would like to see a study on these CLCs. Like, how does it magically just happen that there's ONE OF US in every group? And the other 4-5 don't give a hoot (or simply don't get it)? It just seems too coincidental to be random?! And if there ever comes a time when one of "us" isn't in a group, what does that project look like? Who even puts it together if no one offers/steps up? I'd like to see one of those!

There is no way this is random. Do you think that some of the first classes weed out the people that don't give a hoot. I can't imagine how the other groups are doing. There is one other person that has been active on the project, unfortunately it was the person that cut and pasted everything!

It is upsetting that all I learned from this project is to not be the one to jump into the CLC project and care to get everything done on time. Next time I say nothing, rearrange my life so that the work I need to do can be completed quickly in a couple days, and hope to god that I get at least a B-.

How do I grow if my desire to do my best and succeed is driven from me?

Um, no. I know this because they're stillll heeeeere in class #9...And why would they be weeded out when no one is the wiser that they submitted crud and someone fixed it? The instructors look at the finished project (aka - "Rob's PowerPoint"), they don't take the time to go through the color forum and open every individual's submission. They're looking at the one you turned in with a big bow on it.

Good luck, I hope it works for you. I tried it, and about had a bleeding ulcer when the thing was due on Sunday and here it was Friday and still no one had said anything... I honestly don't know if it's that people a) don't care, or b) they're not that swift on the uptake, or c) there is some devious little game going on where everyone is waiting for the first guy to blink. There's always someone who cracks first, and unfortunately it was me. I couldn't bear the thought of losing 200-250 points because no one on the team decided to even do it.

Never have I referenced a picture that I swiped off google images. I have referenced a bullet point if I felt it needed it, but never a pic (and never got marked down). You probably want to put at least a few on there (I had great pics of Old Flo', my hero), because part of the rubric is that the ppt is easy on the eyes (or something like that). I remember an instructor commenting on one of ours that it was a bit hard to look at because the slides were just full of words and it needed some pics or graphics or something. She also gave us the rule of thumb: no more than 6 bullet points per slide, and no more than 50 words per slide.

Remember this when you post the finished product in the color forum for everyone's final look-see, and the responses you get are..."Looks great!" and "Great job everyone!" and "This is great, thanks for all your hard work everybody!" (when the final ppt looks nothing like the treacherous bits and pieces that were initially handed to you) :banghead:

Never cited/references pictures. So you should be safe. I was a sucker for vintage nursing pictures. It was like my trademark and the professors loved them. The prof for my capstone sent me a pm and had pictures of her mother and grandmother as young nurses :)

The garbage you got for member input happens. Don't despair quite yet. There are people that will hand you things that are nearly perfect. It does happen.

No doubt these are the same idiots that can't prioritize at WORK.
