Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

The trick is not to apply until you contact the counselor recommended to you. If you apply online or speak even once to another counselor, their policy is you can not change. I still had a discussion with the counselor recommended to me. I hope we can work something out.

Hi pinkpetunia, something doesn't sound right. Like keepmovingrn, my sign-up process was like lightening, I was literally done in a matter of 2-3 days from my first contact to sending me my class schedule. Of course the official acceptance may take a week or so after that, but the initial "get you in and get you on your way" should not be taking this long. It's been weeks since you first mentioned this. And it's not correct that you're stuck with your enrollment counselor, you can change if you want, and if I were you I would. You should have had a tentative answer weeks ago!

I totally agree. @pinkpetunia see if you can change admission counselors bc something isn't right.

Can go online and get a copy of your unofficial transcripts?

She may not be an admissions counselor though, I think we are assigned to an RN counselor for guidance are we not?

There are two people you will be involved with, and neither are RNs. Your first person is your enrollment counselor, they get all your info together, submit it, get your official class requirements and schedule and give that to you, make sure you sign all the required documents (application, etc.), and walk you through some training in the online classroom environment. After a couple weeks into school, that person drops off. Then you have an advisement counselor (that's what I call them, not sure what their official title is), this person stays with you throughout the program. Mine calls me every couple weeks and asks how things are going, if I have any complaints or issues, and makes sure I pay before each class starts. He's the one that I make loopy because I'm always switching up my classes or instructors LOL.

Like I said, you need to switch to someone who will take ownership of you and get you enrolled, and that should take no more than a week from start to finish.

I have made it clear, if I can not move on to a more mature counselor.. I am out of the program.. just waiting for the response.

I am an older adult learner.. much life experience. Aghast at the conversation I had. Nor do I have transcripts in my pocket? I requested them 3 weeks ago? She never sent them in so I did, and paid the cost. Great GCU service.

The only thing I can think of is most of you have the new 2 year RN... I am a 3 year Diploma RN.. which at the time was considered better! But. I fear.. GCU does not acknowledge 3 year diploma RN's... we are older women.. yet,we also have much experience. Credits are not clearly defined.. they don't know what to do with us!! IDK I just feel very sad and find all of your smooth experiences great.. that is not what is happening.

Yes, @prismrn is correct. I literally started the process on Monday and was accepted today.

But I will say both me and my admissions counselor were on top of my stuff and I had all of my transcripts on hand already.

I'm glad your putting your foot down. I'm sure everything will work out and you'll get another counselor.

Thank you keep! I only can hope?? I wonder if they do not like 3 year diploma RNs??? We have so much experience, but perhaps they don't know what to do with us?? We have all of the college credits you have.. yet.. it was in the day of Nursing School's 1978!! my nursing school was excellent. Hope GCU will acknowledge my course work in Biology, Chem, Microbiology, Psy, Nutrition, etc...

In fact, you may not keep your enrollment counselor. It's not uncommon to switch, because they move on. I had two, both of which were very attentive.

Pink, you should have had an answer by now. I knew my classes ahead of time, but wasn't officially enrolled until the loans were finalized. It was an easy process and probably took three weeks tops.

Yes, that is half the battle as well. Having your transcripts ready to go. I had to send for mine, sign release papers etc..That took awhile.
