Grady Hospital - volunteering??

Published

Not sure where exactly to put this post... does anyone here volunteer/has volunteered/work at Grady in Atlanta? I'm curious to hear about what this hospital is like from that perspective, because I've only been to the ER once, and it was as a patient. I'm considering applying to volunteer while I work on my BSN at Georgia State.

Specializes in ER.

Just call and say,"I would love to interview. I'm actually (out of town, had a death in the family, on my way to Mars, whatever the reason is) so the soonest I would be able to is ______" When I scheduled a job interview last, they couldn't even fit me in until a week and a half later. So I'm sure they will be understanding.

Good luck!

hi srobb11,

grady also has an externship, that is something else that you might want to look into. i just started my extern 2 weeks ago.

ms sgr,-

did you volunteer there first or you just applied for the externship?

I just applied for the externship. I believe that they are going to have another open house for it in october

ms_sgr, is the externship the same as the residency program or something separate? I am also interested in volunteering at Grady or working. I am currently a nursing student too.

I believe that it's close to the residecy program. You are working with a nurse, so you get to go a lot of things, and you get paid to do it, so make sure you look out for their Open House

I start my orientation on july 21st for volunteering i will be in the lactation department. It was a quick process they let you choose your hours. You can probably join the orientation on the 21st i dont know if they have a limit of how many people can be in orientation at one time. I also go to ga state im applying for spring 2012. Hope to see you at grady GOOD LUCK!

I went to my interview today, and also have orientation July 21st. i will be on the surgery floor.

hi ms_sgr...thanks for the information. i'm aware of the externship and considered it, but i need to have volunteer hours for school and didn't want to stretch myself too thin since i drive pretty far for school. i'm almost done with school, so now i'm more focused on finding a nursing position. :) congratulations on the externship, it will be great experience!
