I am a 2nd career "older" student graduating in May, but I won't be doing a party. Maybe a celebration dinner or something with close friends who know how hard I have worked and what I have gone through but it just isn't my style to throw myself a party. Is it appropriate to throw your own grad party? I have no idea on the etiquette?

I don't see why you can't throw your own party....everyone around here throws one for high school graduation. You worked hard so CELEBRATE!!! I'm almost there too (June) so I know how excited you are!

for party hats you could use the old school caps that nurses wore in the past. i think some scrub shops still sell some paper ones. you can always check ebay, they have everything; also try the oriental trading company.

i think the colors red and white with hints of black would be good. like an american red cross theme or you could always go with your school colors or do a formal all white party...

it all depends on how you want your party to go. you've worked hard you have every right to party! ;)

For my nursing school graduation, we went all out. Luckily my brother's girlfriend worked at a medical supply place and got a bunch of stuff really cheap.

We used urinals for centerpieces w/ flowers, or peanuts. I think we had foley bags hanging from fence filled with ETOH. I got 10 cc syringes and made jello shots/shots. Emesis basins to put chips in, denture cups for dip. We had the linen bags for trash bags. I feel like there was more, but can't remember all the details. It was years ago. But it was a lot of fun. My friends and I worked very hard to get those degrees.

Congrats on graduating!!!!!

Hope this helps.

I AGREEE THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THROWING YOUR SELF A GRADD PARTY!!!:balloons:

Those are the best ideas EVAH! Of course, I'm picturing various mixed drinks in the foley bags, using the spout to dispense...

Helpful hint: Just don't get so drunk at your party that you have to use your emesis basins!

After our last final, our nursing class went to a bar, and the girl I carpooled with got so drunk I had to drive her car home while she experienced extensive emesis all over the upholstery of her expensive car!

A night to remember!

I love the idea of medical supplies as serve wear. You can get a lot of this stuff on ebay really cheap. Or even do a google search. I'm sure you can find them fairly inexpensive.

There are also lots of instructions on how to make paper nurse's caps all over the internet.

Also the disposable surgical caps and face masks might make fun party favors.
