  1. I know I get upset when there are lots of people in the room and I can't get to my patient. If I have to keep saying "excuse me" to get to the pt, I just want to scream sometimes. It's just hard to give good care with lots of people standing in the way.One time, we had a pt going bad, and the family was standing around in the way while everyone is rushing in trying to bring the crash cart in. It was a big mess. We normally have a limit of 2 at a time. But sometimes a nurse lets it slides for a bit, and the family takes advantage of it.
  2. I am at Oakland University in Michigan. My RN-BSN is completely online. I don't recommend taking chemistry (organic) online but it has been done and several people have done it this way. I will be completing my degree this spring. There is no clinical aspect of the program. Any questions feel free to PM me!
  3. could this be it??? http://rn.modernmedicine.com/
  4. Thank you for sharing! I am glad you are okay! I will be sending this to every female that I know. I am currently working in the cath lab. TIME IS MUSCLE! Last weekend on call, we had several 40 year olds who had heart attacks. Forty is not old! A heart attack can happen at any age. We take the door to balloon time very seriously. The sooner we can open the blockage, the less damage. It is important to get it checked out as soon as something doesn't feel right.
  5. Have you taken an ACLS class? These drugs are explained in the class and in the work book.
  6. I'm very sorry to hear about your grandmother. I like TazziRn's way of explaining it, that it's a special day. Even if she passes tomorrow you can always pick another day to remember her. And do something extra special when the 29th comes around again. You and your family will be in my thoughts! I think it is wonderful that everyone in the family has been coming in to show your grandmother how much they care.
  7. I would call the human resource dept at the hospital and see if they have any critical care internships available. I work at a hospital outside of Detroit. I was hired into the hospital in a 14 week orientation out of nursing school. You dont have to do a full year of med/surg before going to the ICU. Most internships prepare you for critical care. Good luck :)
  8. How can u be in NP school if u haven't passed the NCLEX? I have to finish my BSN before I'm allowed to apply for NP school?
  9. For my nursing school graduation, we went all out. Luckily my brother's girlfriend worked at a medical supply place and got a bunch of stuff really cheap. We used urinals for centerpieces w/ flowers, or peanuts. I think we had foley bags hanging from fence filled with ETOH. I got 10 cc syringes and made jello shots/shots. Emesis basins to put chips in, denture cups for dip. We had the linen bags for trash bags. I feel like there was more, but can't remember all the details. It was years ago. But it was a lot of fun. My friends and I worked very hard to get those degrees. Congrats on graduating!!!!! Hope this helps.
  10. I like wearing Crocs at work. I noticed I had less back and feet pain after a 12 hour shift when wearing Crocs. I don't wear anything else.
  11. What about a basket goodies? Muffins, cookies, candies, chocolate, even fruit. Throw in somes pens, dollar store calculators. One time I made a bunch of stuff dipped in chocolate- plain potatoe chips, marshallows, strawberries, pretzels, gramham crackers, bananas, rice krispy treats. It was a huge hit. People always love getting food for some reason.
  12. I graduated from OCC in 2004 and honeslty had no problems with the program. I'm very sorry if you were kicked out. I do not know the whole situation. The thing that got me through nursing school was my very strong group of friends (we were able to work together as well). We were able to keep things together. I honestly never saw anyone kicked out that probably didn't belong there in the first place. I remember we had one girl who constantly showed up late, and our clinical instrutor even found her playing her game boy during clinicals. I know nursing school is tough, and its hard to adjust to different clincial instructors. I know the couple who were tough to me, were honestly just trying to get me to become a good nurse with critical thinking skills. I felt like I was was well prepared for the real world after leaving OCC. I only have good things to say about it.
  13. I started off in the ICU. I had a 14 week internship. I have no regrets. I knew I wanted to work ICU when I was finished with nursing school. Just like OP stated, make sure you ask questions. :)
  14. We just started "friend at work" campaign. Sounds a little cheesy, but it sounds like it might help. It involves a nurse and a new grad becoming "friends". The new grad will/can have lunch with this nurse. The nurse will check up on the new grad. Usually its someone else besides the preceptor. If u want more info. I will grab a flyer from work tomorrow night. Just PM.
  15. Just like another poster posted...i've been working out w/ a trainer. It helps relieve some stress. Last Friday, I got my hair highlighted, mani and pedicure. I even managed to get a massage. All in the same day! That doesn't happen too often. I try to get a massage at least once a month. I think i deserve it between working and school. I might have to work an over time day to afford it...but it worth it. :)
