Anyone else out there graduating from Excelsior today?? After 17 months, it sure seems good to have it over. All except the NCLEX, which will be next Friday.

Congrats H60Medic!!

I am in Excelsior for similar reasons. I looked at traditional schools, but I enjoy eating and keeping a roof over my family's head, so I couldn't quit my firefighting job to go to school. As far as the concern with job hunting, I'm not sure if it is location specific, but there seems to be a pretty favorable opinion in my area. I actually spoke with one nurse recruiter while waiting to take a test at a prometric center and she said that she loves to hire EC grads because of all the previous experience we bring to the table and the discipline required to complete the school. I wish her hospital was closer to my house!!

Best of luck to you in the future!

I have heard all kinds of rumours while attending. The bottom line is, the person makes the nurse, not where you went to school, or for how long. As a paramedic you probably know of basics that you would rather care for you during an emergency instead of some paramedics, just because of the person they are and the care they would give. Same with nurses, some of the LPNs I have met in the ER run circles around one of the BSN-RNs right next to them.

If you have a good attitude, and are intersting in learning and being the best that you can be, (not an Army plug), no one will have any difficulty finding a rewarding job.

Best of luck to you,

H60Medic

Hi H60, I am proud of you....from a fellow military medic. I just have CPNE to do. I agree with you, Excelsior is not for everyone. I was in your situation, traditional nursing school was not an option for me either. However, with the training and knowledge I have from being a medic it was doable, hard work but doable. You are right about the discipline it takes to complete this program. I am a little concerned about when I go job hunting....there seems to be negativity about the way we do this nursing program. With that being said and the experience I have I am sure that will be a plus. Hey good luck on your NCLEX, my fellow veteran

And a big fat DITTO to all the above from another veteran medic and successful Excelsior Grad !

CONGRATS on graduating !!! :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: Good job!

They are typically generous for the most part but you will not know exactly until you enroll and get an official review.

Congrats on graduating. I graduated from EC in May and passed NCLEX in June. Still smiling over this huge accomplishment :chuckle . When going on job interview, if they bring up concerns with this school, make sure you emphazise the very skills that make this program so difficult for most - you are self motivated, time oriented (or you wouldn't be done yet/ever!), disciplined, a self learner, etc. It took all these skills to get this degree - brag about it. Good luck on NCLEX
