Congratulations to you! Anything special planned for graduation?

Best wishes to you :p

You mean you are taking the NCLEX a week after graduating from Excelsior?

How did you manage that?

My state, Mississippi, enables NCLEX application with a letter of qualification from the dean of the school, which I recieved approximately two weeks ago.

What are your feelings about the program you went thru.......was it hard fro you to study w/o a classroom and instructor? I have looked into these programs several times, but just don't know if I'm disiplined enough. Thanks for any info you can share.

Congrats on your graduation and best of luck on the NCLEX!!!

I am sure that you have read that this type of schooling is not for everyone. I know of more people who have started down this road and did not complete it, than those who have. I myself, while not blessed with being highly intelligent, have obtained a good deal of self-discipline through twenty years in the military, which is the key. I looked at traditional programs, but being a fire-fighter/paramedic with 24/48 shifts, no one would even talked to me. I could not give up supporting my family just to obtain education, so this was right down my alley.

Do not go through independent study companies if you pursue this path. I obtained all my material through e-bay and yahoo groups, and then re-sold them afterwards to cut down on the cost. The only additional expense I had was attending the Chancellor's care lab in Indianaoplis, which was definitely worth the money.

By surprise, I found that I really enjoyed getting back into the learning environment. I start my BSN via distant learning with Florida College of Health Science at the end of August.

I would much rather push myself, than to have someone else do the pushing on me. I hope that this answers your question. Best of luck to you, and all who seek to better themselves.

Thanks for the info! So happy that all has worked out for you. Also, thanks for your service to our Country. My hubby is in the Army as well. Congrats and best of luck!

Well, I'm not in the military, nor have I ever been, yet I was able to muster up the discipline to finish...well, I still have clinicals to take in September, so I don't guess I can talk yet.

It seems it *can* be possible for all types of learners to go through a distance learning program. It was easier for me, I believe, because I am very introverted and kind of a loner, and do better alone.

However, I know some who have been successful with this program who were social learners and studied with a partner to help keep them motivated.

Exactly! I met the full spectrum of personalities on-line, and up in Indianapolis. All you need to be is the little train that could, because none of the hills are steep, just consistent.

Congratulations to you on your accomplishments so far, practice your labs, and memorize your CE's.

Hi H60, I am proud of you....from a fellow military medic. I just have CPNE to do. I agree with you, Excelsior is not for everyone. I was in your situation, traditional nursing school was not an option for me either. However, with the training and knowledge I have from being a medic it was doable, hard work but doable. You are right about the discipline it takes to complete this program. I am a little concerned about when I go job hunting....there seems to be negativity about the way we do this nursing program. With that being said and the experience I have I am sure that will be a plus. Hey good luck on your NCLEX, my fellow veteran
