2011 Graduates Put your hands up

Published

I thought it would be cool to start a thread for all that are graduating in 2011. I finish in October and have to wait for graduation in December. I would love to hear everyone's plan after they finish school. What field of nursing are they going into, do you already have jobs lined up etc.

@ Nursing12345

I wasn't sure if you were directing your ? to my post. I am from California- the bay area. The job market here suck big time! Its very difficult for a new grad to get a job....=/

Congratulations everyone!! What a great thread. :yeah:I've spent last 3 years getting my LPN and just graduated with ASN from Excelsior college. Waiting on ticket to test. I know it takes a while...just so ready to get the NCLEX behind me. I am keeping busy continuing work as LPN doing Clozaril and Flu clinics. I would love to start as a hospital RN but will take what I can get. I just can't wait to be an RN!! Good luck everyone!!

Hi congrats on your graduation, I graduated in april in Florida. It's hard down here for an new grad RN, how is it in Canada for a nurse with no work experience? Thanks!

where did you go to school?

I graduated in May 2011. Took the NCLEX-RN two days ago, I got the good pop up via PVT. But I still want those official results.

Specializes in LTC.

I'm sure you all may already know this but I didn't. First of all, now is the perfect time to ask your instructors for letters of recommendation. Once you graduate it will be pretty darn hard to get one because they have new soon to be graduates that are their priority.

Another thing.... in addition to applying online make sure you call the hospitals in your area and speak to the nurse recruiter. I called a nurse recruiter yesterday to inquire about internships and jobs for new grads. She told me that they hire new grads twice a year but she never puts the application online because she is flooded with applications nationwide. She emailed an application and told me what I needed to submit by a selected date to be interviewed.

Start networking now....

Best of luck in the job search. There are jobs out here. I have called several places recently that do hire new grads. :nurse:

I just wanted to give an update on my results. I got the results today from the board of nursing and I passed!!!!

Now it's time for a vacation and job hunting!!!

i graduated last march 2011 and passed the boards last july 2011. i'm now looking for a job. but here in the philippines it's very hard to find a job! :bluecry1:

Specializes in Critical Care.
I graduated in May. Passed my boards in July (I cried when I got the quick results). I've been on 3 job interviews so far (2 before I passed my boards). I went on a job interview on Wednesday for an ICU nurse fellowship, and then went on the second interview on Thursday with the nurse manager of the unit. Now I'm waiting to hear if I got the job. This is my dream job! I know I have to be proactive and persistent. I've already emailed the first lady I interviewed with. I'm going to email her tomorrow and ask for the second lady's email address so I can send a thank you note. Pray for me guys!!! The program doesn't start until October 10, so I hope it doesn't take forever for me to hear back.

Just an update. I found out last week that I got the ICU nurse fellowship position!! I start October 10, and am very nervous and very excited!!! Best of luck to all of you on graduation and all of you during your job hunt. :nurse:

Wow that's awesome!!!!!!!! Congrats!!! You are so blessed!! How is it at your new job??

So far so good..I tell you I was so lucky..even with my BSN as my seconds degree, its been tough to get a job...its really hard!! i got a job at a LTAC (long term acute care) and I am loving the training..I work at ICU where all the patients have bad complications and most of them have vents and all have trachs...after 6 months of experience i plan to get a job at a VA hospital or bigger hospital like parkland or methodist...
