Graduated & Discouraged. HELP.

Published

So I graduated August 17, 2012. I've been slightly studying for boards because I don't know what my problem is. I said I was going to take a month and study and prep for boards and try to sit for them early October. I always do what works best for me. Currently using Saunder's comprehensive review for the NCLEX-PN examination. Blah.

HONESTLY, I've been procrastinating because I have two misdemeanor charges on my record for tampering with a motor vehicle and peace disturbance. I have yet to send my application in to know if I'm even eligible to sit for boards. A wee bit discouraged right now.

Tomorrow is the big day. I'm going to print the letter I typed to the board and send my big yellow envelope to the Missouri State Board of Nursing. GRRR.

I need all the prayer y'all can give. Call your grannies and praying aunts for me because I need it. I also know that God didn't bring me THIS far to leave me.

No pressure, no diamond, I guess.

All my grannies have passed away, but I asked them to do what they could for you. :)

Seriously, I have trouble dealing with procrastination too, but I do know action tends to build on itself, or "once things are in motion they tend to stay in motion". You are doing the right thing! Bite the bullet and just send that stuff in!

Good luck, don't give up, and remember that circumstances never go away by avoiding them (much as I still wish that would work).

It helps me out if I plan to take things one step at a time, build in little rewards for yourself after you accomplish each thing, and try to find a supportive friend who you can trust to hold you accountable without nagging you to death.

I had a misdemeanor and another arrest on my record that I had to explain away to the Missouri State Board. My letter consisted of "I was young and stupid" with some elaboration. I have an unrestricted license. Just own up, and you'll be fine.

Two of my classmates in my LPN program had a DUI on their records. They had to do the class thingy and be forth coming with the Oregon State Board of nursing. Both of them were allowed to sit for the NCLEX and then they also had to wait for the one person to review their records and to approve them even though they had passed.

I'd say do what you've gotta do, be forth coming! Then you can get to the next era of your life. I graduated from my LPN program Aug. 18, 2011. My instructor always told us to not studying anything for two weeks, sleep, and go on a vaction. I did just that. Then I reviewed my lab values, went over general things from the exam cram LPN book (it gave me awesome tips on how to answer questions if I don't know the answers), then I used the saunders disc on study mode (hated the book) and would answer anywhere between 200-300 questions a day. I did this for three weeks, took my NCLEX-PN Oct. 4, 2011 and found out that I passed the next day.

I wish you the best of luck! You will be able to get through all of this. Keep the faith.

At this point, take the tests in the study books, correct the tests, and you will see what you know and what you need to review. That was the easiest way for me to figure out if I was reading stuff that I knew cold and making my head spin, and what I needed to concentrate on.

If the misdemenors were dismissed, then they will show up as dismissed on your record. I would want to see exactly what my record shows. I would pass it by an attorney, as in some states, CORI can say "no adult convictions". If you were convicted, read the questions that the BON asks carefully, and answer honestly. If whatever your form said did not prevent you from taking clinicals, then I am not sure if it will for you to sit for your boards, but again, I would pass this by an attorney for guidance.

Keep studying......You'll get there. Sending prayers and positive vibes! Good Luck!
