Was just thinking the other day, when did all nursing grad programs becomes a B to stay in the program... was it like this back in the days? Funny how med school requires i think just C's? and Nurse graduate school require B averages or you are out of the program. Is this for everyone one's program? I am from Texas..just curious

When I returned to school, I noticed the same thing. At my FNP program, "B" is passing, which = 83% and to get "A" = 92-94%, depending on course. It gets kind of interesting when class average is 75% on an exam.

Yes, I'm in the FNP program at University of Miami below 83% is failing - and they are not shy about failing people!

My program had a similar requirement... and I am not sure how so many folks made it through the program with averages on exams in the 70s or lower at times.
yeah, i noticed the same thing, avgs are usually below the requirements.. ours is 80% at least, some classes let you include the papers, other grades to get the 80+ but some classes require 80% average on the exams before they even include the other grades..if any..if not 80% on exams then poof... gone from program

I think it is a practice of all graduate schools (not just Nursing). At my University, any single grade in the C range must be repeated. A second grade in the C range (or any F) means automatic dismissal.
I did my Ph.D. work in Political Science, and grades of B or better were required there too.
I always wonder about that. The mean for each exam is published but without any central tendencies other than the mean. I just assume that there are a few who crap out and a few who nail it whilst I stay nice and balanced in the middle.

I'm pretty sure all grad programs require a "B" in every course.
Although having said that about my program, I must point out that it's not hard to get at least a B. Compared to my graduate work in Australia, I find that they totally spoonfeed you here! Along with giving lecture notes with the exact things that will be on exams, they then hold "review" sessions and in some cases give you sample questions which are then seen verbatim on the exam!

The funny thing I have noticed about these programs where B is passing, a lot of people make 70s on their tests, but somehow their overall grade is always a B.
At least it seems that way.

At my school a B is an 84, A a 92. Can only get a B and pass. Must have an 84 average on your exam scores to pass. Our tests are insane, 25 questions to cover chapters and chapters of detailed material. Finals are comprehensive. Our review basically consists of the instructor saying everything we've covered up to this point is fair game. No review. No help, no hints. Currently over half my class is failing (luckily-not me.) My class started with 30 some people and after 2 years there are 10 of us left. Thank god I'm almost done!
