Graduate Nurse starting salary? All feedbacks welcome!

Published

Hi folks,

I want to know if anyone know the exact starting wage of a BSN graduate nurse is here in St. Louis MO. So far I've heard everything ranging from $18 - $27 an hour. I've even checked the salary on http://www.salary.com and nurses in this area makes $50,000-$60,000 a year, but that seems a bit too high. Thanks & Any comments are welcome.

In the San Francisco Bay Area (the East Bay) new grads start at $47/hour. The night differential is $7/hour.

Specializes in MS, LTC, Post Op.

I am starting out at $22.50 in Kentucky.

Specializes in 1.

Depends on the cost of living. In the Bay Area of California it is around 45-50 dollars an hour.

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

That is probably NOT the average new grad salary :) That's probably the average nurses' salary...and consider that you probably won't hit that average for quite a while until you've racked up experience and/or are working 2nd and 3rd shifts. So don't plan your immediate future around that number--instead plan it on what the hospitals will actually offer you.

Where I am, new grads start at $18-22 not including shift diffs. The big hospitals know new grads are plentiful, so they're actually on the lower end of the salary scale. Cost of living isn't too bad around here though.

Upstate NY is 20.50-22/hr and believe it or not there is a freeze hold on hiring:eek:

Where in upstate NY are you? My cousin in-law got hired at the end of last year and started making $27/hour. A friend of mine just got hired a couple weeks ago as well, not sure how much she's making though.

DC is $25.25. Rural Va. is $21.40.

Specializes in Dialysis.

northwest PA, near NY southern tier, is $22/hr before shift differential.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

What I don't understand is why do I still keep getting emails from Rochester and Unity Health saying apply for a job - but no response!

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

In Dallas and my starting is 23.00 with out differential.

What hospital you work at and what nursing school did you go to if you don't mind me asking?

Specializes in Postpartum, L&D, Mother-Baby.

Wow, some people are making like $50?!!!!! I am starting at 21, but I am grateful to have a job. Plus, where I live, the cost of living is really low...it is a small town 2.5 hours out of San Antonio.....I do have a 24,000 bonus paid over 2 years though...2000 paid in the first full paycheck and 1000 paid with all other checks in addition to the regular pay....not bad!:clown:

It's all about the area. I live in upstate NY and although I would love to make $50/hr, it's not needed because cost of living is lower then say San Francisco. You need to make more in an area like that to survive. I personlly wouldn't live in an area like that, lol. $50/hr sounds nice but look how much real estate is, among other things...it's crazy.
