Hi everyone, I'm a registered nurse in the Philippines. I'm about to apply for a student visa and enroll in an international college in UK and take GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT.
After I passed June 2007 NLE, I had hard time applying in hospitals. I ended up volunteering in a 250 bed Government Hospital. After my contract, I decided not to renew anymore since there was no chance for me to be hired as a regular staff (there were too many volunteers lined up for the position). I applied again to other hospitals but to no avail. Since Philippines is overflowing with nurses, I decided to try getting a student visa. Even though I'll only be receiving £6-10/hr as a student, I think it will be better than staying here and letting time fly by and have no work/progress at all. I'll be sponsored by my brother who works as a private carer and I'm also gonna stay in their flat with his wife (RN in UK).
I hope someone could enlighten be about Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Management.
I have read that matter beforehand. I don't intend to work in any illegal way.I'm gonna ask the consultancy if they will allow my brother or sister to handle all of my expenses (course fees, accomodation, etc). My brother actually insists to enroll me and therefore willing to be my sponsor. He already inquired at Thames.
I am after 'study and earn' thing.
If ever the course won't offer me any of these, I just have be satisfied with it. I'll be happy just to study and stay with my siblings.
You need to ensure the part time work whilst you earn is aimed at international students and not UK students only.
It sounds as if you are doing your homework about what you will and will not be allowed to do. Good luck
Thank you for all your insights. I'm thankful I joined allnurses.com.
I'll wait for my friend to settle there and ask her questions just to make sure there won't be any problems. She already booked a flight on August 24. I'll also attend orientation on the consultancy firm where she applied.
Anyhow, my former colleague is currently enrolled in NVQ and according to her, she earns £6 per hour on her training. Does anyone know the difference of NVQ from graduate diploma in healthcare management?

THe NVQ is a generic title which covers many subjects. If your friend is doing the healthcare one then I think that takes up to NVQ level 3 which is a basic British certificate, it does not even equate to a diploma level course. THe Graduate diploma is a level 6 NVQ which is as it says degree level course. Also the graduate diploma may well be recognised outside the UK but please be aware this is not a nursing qualification it is a management qualification. It will not allow you to practice as a nurse and will not help you progress your nursing career.
The frustrations for us is that these nurses who are coming to the UK to do the healthcare NVQ and earning £6 a hour are really going to struggle to survive and will have no benefit from the NVQ. IT is not recognised outside the UK, it is not a nursing qualification or certificate and the work during the placements does not count towards nursing hours. They and you will not be permitted to stay in the UK at the end of the course and will not be allowed to work here.
Personally I think the companies who offer this course your friend is doing are unscrupulous and are exploiting you nations nurse by paying them minimum wage to work as carers when it is going to do little for them as nurses in the future.
side note the thames international college offers a practical nurse course leading to a LPN no wonder i say a nclex-pn in a book shop in manchester other colleges must be offerning it.
am puzzled nmc doesn't accepts any en anymore so no registaion in the uk and pn are not even eligble for GC

It's just another way of exploiting money out of these desperate nurses who want to leave the Phillapines Ayla.
everytime i see this kind of thread on the uk site i immediately smell a rat, as usual british colleges making money from foreigners who dont know any better. i do not believe in the economic climate of britain that there are not enough brits to do a carers job, which is ultimately all that they are using these nurses for.
