Who's applied to GPC for the fall?
Hello all! I have been reading on here and I have some questions if you dont mind me asking?.......how hard is it to be accepted in the rn program at this school? also I was wondering what pre reqs were required and what minimum Teas score is required to apply.
I have tried twice to get into the Lpn program at gptc(dekalb tech)and I cant get in. They only accept 20 ppl and they have so many applicants. Also I heard its easier to get into Rn programs because everyone seems to be turning to Lpn.....is this true? I have a 3.3 gpa...do you think its good enough? Thanks again for helping me!
Hello Mindy,
I do think a 3.3 is good enough. Just make sure you have met all the core requirements, which can be found on the GPC Nursing website. Personally, I wanted to make sure I had everything completed before applying, which I think is what helped me. They are not strict on the TEAS, as long as you score at or above the national average. I also think that doing all of your core will help you when you take your TEAS. You can get the TEAS study guide at atitesting.com. They have practice tests on there as well. (I took the TEAS test before I had completed all of my sciences, A&P/Micro) and when I was going through those classes, I would remember particular questions on the TEAS where I could have done better.
As far as your LPN questions, I too had looked into that option, but it seemed like I would have had to go to school just as long to be an LPN as an RN! So I made the decision to do the RN.
My GPA when I applied to GPC was a 3.57. My TEAS was only a 70. I had no w/d from classes, which is also something they are looking at. They also like to see good math scores/grades. I think it would benefit you to go to one of their Nursing Information Sessions. The dates can be found on their nursing website. I actually attended two of them to keep abreast on things. If they have not changed things, the application deadline is Jan 3rd. If you are concerned your GPA might not be good enough, I would suggest taking a couple of electives/easy classes to get your GPA where you feel comfortable, but that is just my suggestion.
Good luck!
Hey Mindy! I agree with the previous poster about going to an informational session. They give you a lot information about the program including what the class schedule will look like and if you have any questions after you leave they will get in contact with you through email. I went to a session in March and the scores they gave us for the Fall 2012 class were: GPA-3.0 and TEAS -65. The only thing is some courses you took at GPTC might not transfer over. So you might want to talk to an advisor over there.I know you will hear some bad stuff about them but I was impressed with them. I am trying to get into a BSN program due to talk about hospitals wanting BSN nurses. However, I will be applying to them as well. Let me know if you need any help! Good Luck:)
Thanks everyone! I have taken the teas and I got a 64 on it. but I think only 3 of my classes will transfer. But anyways I think I may try it . I mean I mine as well start taking their core classes because Ill just be waiting at gptc anyways right?and it seems that gptc will never expand the lpn program although there is a rumor they are. I will look into the information session. It just makes me mad that I have spent all this time at gptc and was misleaded on how long it would take to become an lpn and I could have started the core classes at gpc and been way ahead and would be an rn by now.....or almost an rn! ugh! (loooooooooooooong deep breaths) lol. Ill get there sooner or later!!! Thanks everyone and please keep in touch
