Published

Hi all! I think this is my very first post on all nurses! Lol anyway, I applied to good Sam a million times since graduating in may. I applied yesterday & HR called me back today!! Idk what I did differently! Lol maybe its bc now i work at another hospital? Idk but crossing my fingers! Does anyone have any interview advice for this hospital? Any specs?? It's for a med surg position. Thanks!!

Congratulations! I can't help you with your question, but you give me hope that perseverance helps!

Yes definitely! I spoke with HR and she said I'm moving forward with the process!! A "talent consultant" should be in touch with me within a week for a 15-30 min telephone interview! Yikes!! I'm so scared but excited at the same time!

Good luck with your process!! What hosptial do you currently work at and are you working as an RN?

I'm currently working part time nights on a med surg unit at nyack hospital as an RN.

Yes that is definitely in your favor to be currently working in a hospital. I do not currently work in a hospital. I have been unable to get a hosptial job anywhere on LI. They def want current experience.

I am having the same problem. But I do not have years of experience in hospital like you. I graduated a year ago and have 8 months of RN experience in a clinic and also do home care with case management. I had 3 interviews the past 4 months and the result of them is I do not get hired. They hire new grads with no experience and do not consider my clinic/home care job to be a big deal as it is "not hospital experience". I do not understand as in home care and clinic we also use Nursing skills, more so than new grads with no job or even hosp volunteer work. Im so confused they will train new grads but not someone who already has some nursing skills? In the meanwhile I have been getting certified in everything from ACLS to PALS and ran out of certification classes to take. I guess a few months from now I should get looking for a refresher course as well.

I wish you well. What upsets me more is when I hear that schools around the country and in the city each still graduate 300 students a semester? really there are like no jobs stop recruiting and accepting so many students! Its all for profit for schools, ugh. I am lucky to even work in the clinic as many new RNs are out of school way longer and still no RN job at all.

Average NYS nursing school has about 100 or maybe a bit more open slots per class. Of that the number of graduates ranges from 100% to in some cases 50%, that is for many programs there are always those who either drop out or are booted out of a program.

NYS Nursing:Nursing Programs:RN NCLEX Results: 2008-2012

Remember just because you see in any given year say 200 students from a nursing program graduated that year it very may well be that number combines two classes; that is schools that start classes each fall and spring thus graduate a new batch of nurses every six months, twice in each year.

Aside from Excelsior College cannot imagine any nursing program having the resources to take on three hundred size classes. *LOL*

The private schools (hint: big name ones in manhattan). I went to a public city college which had a limit to 100 students accepted (with about 80 actually graduating) a year but at my job we have students do their community health rotations and they tell us each semester they have between 250 and 300 students graduating.

Wow! That is amazing. Are these ADN programs?
