What area of nursing would be good for a male to work in? Any Suggestions?
Thanks.

All I know is many male patients would be glad to see you when it comes to more "sensitive" health issues and procedures.

I have worked with male nurses in every area I have been in, with the exception of my current job(school nurse.) Not that a man couldn't do it. We just dont' have any male school nurses, for whatever reason. I've been a nurse 34 years and I've worked in OB, GYN, ER, Nicu,Picu. A male nurse is perfectly capable of working in any and all specialties, in my experience.

The ER and cardiac ICU are the main favorites for the male nurses at my local hospital. Psych is up in the ranks as well.

I'm considering going towards the Psych route myself. Might try to do something part time first.
Wonder what the general opinion is of males in hospice care is? Wonder if they like it.

I think male nurses are great in any area and not just because of their muscles! Males in the nursing world bring a different element into a female dominated career. They help break up all the female cattiness and gossip because they are there to WORK! I have had the pleasure of working with several male nurses and have loved the different perspective they bring not to mention the wonderful teamwork and their calmness under pressure. Guys have the ability to go about getting their work done without distractions about the latest floor rumors and who's dating who crap. That's just been my ovbservation and personally I would like to see many more male nurses in the world today!
