Golden West College (GWC) ADN Fall 2023

Hey!  It might be a little early to start this, given that applications aren't open yet, but I noticed that the multi-criteria points system was updated in September 2022.  I thought I remembered being in better shape when I looked at the old points system in past semesters ? so I was curious to hear from anyone else who is planning to apply and see where we all stand.

I haven't taken the TEAS yet, but not including my TEAS score I have 56 points so far, and I'll have a max of 81 depending on my score.

Hi! I was also bummed to find out that they changed the multi-criteria point system. I currently have 37 points but I'm hoping to meet the minimum work hours and planning on taking ENGL110-Critical thinking during intersession. That will bring me to 54 points pre TEAS, I'll have a max of 79 if I get the full point for the TEAS.

I know from past app cycles that there were alternates with 79 points. But yeah I'm also wondering how the new point system affected others. My points definitely decreased haha.

okay, I found the old criteria to compare https://www.goldenwestcollege.edu/Links/pdf/Updated-Multi-Criteria-Guidelines-June-2019.pdf

I would have had a max of 91 points and only needed a 70% on the TEAS to get 81 points.  I was looking at the thread for the the Spring 2022 application cycle, and I think 80-81 was probably the cut off.

Hopefully everyone else will be in a similar boat and the cut off will be a little lower this cycle.  This change really came without enough warning for us to take some of those extra classes that are worth so many points now.  Definitely curious to hear from any other soon-to-be applicants!!

Yes! I would have had 88 points max. It's going to be interesting to see how things play out this cycle considering the new point system and that the app only opens once a year. Im hoping if I don't get in for Fall 2023 that I can at least make it for Spring 2024. Im applying to other schools but they're much further away.

Just saw that GWC is offering a free ATI TEAS Examination on 01/13/23. Registration link will be available on 12/05/22 in case anyone is interested!

They also updated the filing dates for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024: March 1-15, 2023.

Just thought I would share incase you haven't seen it yet.

I'm def on the lower end of the points total because I don't have healthcare exp. im in the mid-high 50s with TEAS.

Im in the same boat! I managed to get max points for TEAS but I won't meet the minimum work hours so my total points will be 62. They reserve 10 spots for lottery so I'm applying anyway.

goodluck to us both! GW is p impacted so I hope luck is on our side

Hi Guys,

I just found this thread! Thanks for starting it. I submitted my application today and I'm also in the low 60's. I wonder if a lot of us will be in the same boat who don't have clinical work experience. I'm hoping for a lottery win ?

Much like you guys who have commented above, I thought I would be in the low 80's with the old point system. I think points awarded for more work experience, pathophysiology, and pharmacology points put me at a disadvantage. Also, I was awarded fewer points for my bachelor's than then old point system. Oh well! If I don't get in, I can try again next year. ?

Oh also, just a side note that when I took the TEAS at GWC on January 13th, one of the nursing administrators was proctoring and she said that they are expanding and admitting more students than in previous years. Between that info and only one application cycle for the year, I hope we get admitted even if our points are on the lower end. ?

Yah I was real disappointed in how they changed their multi criteria system. GC is a interesting program...

I'm curious to know what you've heard about the program, tbh I've only heard that its a good program but nothing specific.

luckily I scored high enough on the TEAS to get full points in that category, for a total of 81 points. I'm feeling fairly optimistic about getting an acceptance, but I'm also feeling hopeful about getting into one of the BSN programs I applied to, which would be my preference. I'm looking at GWC and Saddleback as backups if the BSN programs don't pan out, and GWC is way closer and more convenient for me, but I'm curious if you've heard anything negative about the program.
