Golden West College ADN Fall 2021

Updated:   Published

Hi all! I wanted to start a new thread for those of us who are planning to apply for GWC ADN Program for Fall 2021. I thought we could post any questions, help, or updates.

I will be applying with either 82 or 87 points depending on my TEAS score. Right now I'm hovering in the mid 80s for practice exams, but hoping I can still land in the 90s.

It looks like last semester was really competitive so it's making me nervous.

For those who didn't get accepted, do we ge a rejection letter in the email explaining why we were rejected? Because I haven't received anything yet. I'm planning to meet with the councilor soon to figure out what I can improve on, as well as, how much points I had when I submitted for the fall.

I would assume that the reason for rejection is not enough points or application was disqualified due to transcripts not being received/ prerequisite classes not transferable.

If you don’t mind, you could share your stats and I’m sure we could give you suggestions on where you can improve.

Yeah, I know ?. I know that my points weren't really that high. If I calculated correctly I had 77 points. I maxed out points for all of the categories except for my sciences, which I had a 3.0 and my TEAS, which I scored 85%. I did retake one of my sciences this past Spring which will boost my science GPA. I mainly wanted to see the counselor to find out if the format for my work hours was wrong. It had a letterhead, but I noticed that it didn't have any contact information from my work. I wasn't sure if that could have docked me points.

If you maxed out your points for every category, the next best option is to work on raising your science GPA which will dramatically boost your overall points if you do well in them.

It was also really REALLY competitive everywhere this semester especially so don’t be too hard on yourself. Keep applying, apply everywhere, and stay positive! You WILL be a nurse soon! :)))

You can definitely email them regarding the letter. I think they wouldn’t have an issue letting you know.

For the next application period, can your work write you another letter and have them include the business info? The first letter my boss wrote me was just a simple icon of our company. No other info. He didn’t even put down his contact info. So I asked him to include the contact info and redid the letter for me.

I was going through past forums and it looked like some people got rejection letters the same day as those who got acceptance letters.

Don’t be discouraged. When I wanted to apply for Spring 2021, I had a 2.9 science GPA so I retook Physio, and that A raised my GPA to 3.6, which was a 20 point boost! It just meant that I had to start a year later, but that time passed by anyway. It might take a semester later, but you’ll get there!

I just received an acceptance letter!! I was assuming I was going to get rejected because I didn't hear anything until today but I guess they are still going through the applicants ?

I also just received an acceptance letter!! The email said I was on the alternate list, I never received an email with my position, so not sure what number I was! Anyway, I applied with 84 points! Good luck to everyone on the alternate list!!

tbh I'm very confused because I believe had 79 points but I received a email with an offer to be in the program and saying that I was previously on the alternate list as well. My counsellor today even told me I was most likely going to receive a rejection letter with that many points. Did anyone else get in with points under 84?

Were you in the alternative list and if so what number!? Or did they just sent you a letter of acceptance without being on the alternative list? ?

I believe they must have counted my classes I recently finished which added 5 pts to my application so yeah I think I did have 84 pts then!

They just sent me an email saying I was on the alternate list and they wanted to offer me a spot in the program. So they didn't tell me what number I was. The deadline is also tomorrow so I responded right away LOL and got the confirmation from Dr M
