Hi,
I will be moving to New York from Oregon to begin the 15-month accelerated program at NYU. I love New York and I almost went to NYU four years ago. I wish I knew more about the school of nursing and the program though. Of course, I am just excited to be so much closer to becoming a nurse. In Oregon, the competition is ridiculous. It's like applying to medical school. Even though NYU is super expensive, the program is so much shorter than anything around here and the sooner you get to work the less expensive the program really is.
So, I am trying to find out more about it. Does anyone know how many students got in, or better yet, is there anyone else out there who also plans to begin the program in September? I haven't gotten my packet of information yet so I really know NOTHING about the program except what is on the website (which is not very much). Any information would help my curiousity.

Hey...well, you guys can add one more to the mix of NYU accelerated students.
So...i was worried i'd be the youngest one...i'll be 24...and i figured this was more of a program for people who were established but wanted a change in career....however, from what i've read...at least there's two other people in my age range.
now i'm just curious as to how many other guys are in the program?
Columbia....why pay nearly 75 grand? When I called up, they told me I should set aside roughly 75-80 grand for the first phase of their nursing program. thanks, but no thanks. Yes, their education is the best in the city...but I'd be insane to allow myself that much debt.
So..the dental school is where exactly? I actually haven't seen. I visited the school when it was still located over by Washington Square. Hmmm....I sort of liked that area a lot. Washington Square is great...close to union square...it's the the midst of the village. Will all classes now be located in the dental school?
So yeah...i guess i'll be seeing you guys come fall. i'm 23 as of now (24 when it starts), a guy (obviously), already living and working in New York City (Astoria...Queens. hey..it's still "the city":).
i know i'm psyched.
i haven't gotten any info yet either, so no worries..you aren't the only ones;)
And you should be studying for your A&P II final instead of reading forums. (it's olivia btw)
I just found out that after your 1st bachelor's degree, you are not eligible for Federal grant money any more no matter how needy your family is. It's private/institution scholarships and loans only.
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?
In the immortal words of Eric Theodore Cartman or Ralphie Parker, take your pick:
"Ohhh fuudge!!!"

I finally received the information on our orientation! We get the choice of June 23rd or July 12th....anyone have an idea yet of which one you're attending? I'm thinking the earlier one, but wanted to see when ya'll will be here.
By the way, I may have reached the ripe old age of 26, but I'd still like to be considered in your age range! After all, I only worked two years after college before deciding to drop my income and head back to school and torture myself with a couple years of science classes. Only one week left of these prerequisites though!

Hi guys! Just got the orientation packet in the mail as well...I going to the June 23 one so if anyone else decides to go then as well PM me and we can discuss meeting somewhere....you are right 26 is not old at all!! I think it is more that we felt very young :) talk to you all soon!
Hi, Guys. I never heard of the NYU program until I bumped into this thread. I would ABSOLUTELY love the idea of getting my BSN in NYC.
Just one thing though, the program starts in Sept. from what you mentioned. Do I still have time to apply?
By the way, I'm a guy and I'm 28 (ya bunch of young'uns)
I wish I could go to the June 23rd orientation! I'm all the way in Oregon though and the July 12th one fits in perfectly with my June 13th trip to Spain, so I really can't justify making a separate trip in June. I wish I could meet all of you though. Maybe for those of you who are current New Yorkers, when I come for orientation on July 12th I could meet up with you on campus or after orientation. PM me if that sounds fun.
And by the way Mission, I'm with Cutie, 26 is not old at all, it's just that 23 (or 22 in my current case) could be a bit young for the age group that applied to the accelerated program. I honestly don't care if I'm 15 years younger than everyone, it's just interesting to know that there are others who felt really young.
Oh, and about those uniforms...how did they come up with purple? Is it a school spirit thing? So silly. To be honest though, I do already have a pair of purple scrubs from my nursing assistant job. The darker the better.
Ooops, I meant AndyRuth, not Mission on my last post. Sorry.
So who is going to the June 23 orientation? Who is going to July 12?? Do the people going to the June 23 one want to meet up at some point? I think it'd be great to meet some of you!!
I am also going to meet up with Medora July 12 for coffee if anyone would like to join!!
Hope to see you all soon :)

Maybe by the time the program starts we will all have talked already. We should definately all pick a time and place to meet up the week before classes so we aren't all strangers.
Dberkeley: I was shocked at the price of Columbia too. NYU isn't cheap, but for god's sake, most of us chose nursing because we wanted to make money among other things. I just found out that after your 1st bachelor's degree, you are not eligible for Federal grant money any more no matter how needy your family is. It's private/institution scholarships and loans only. So, unless Columbia hands out a lot of there own money, with $80,000 in debt, it would be decades before you saw your paychecks. Yikes.
Well, back to studying...
