Going to NYU's 15-month accelerated program

Published

Hi,

I will be moving to New York from Oregon to begin the 15-month accelerated program at NYU. I love New York and I almost went to NYU four years ago. I wish I knew more about the school of nursing and the program though. Of course, I am just excited to be so much closer to becoming a nurse. In Oregon, the competition is ridiculous. It's like applying to medical school. Even though NYU is super expensive, the program is so much shorter than anything around here and the sooner you get to work the less expensive the program really is.

So, I am trying to find out more about it. Does anyone know how many students got in, or better yet, is there anyone else out there who also plans to begin the program in September? I haven't gotten my packet of information yet so I really know NOTHING about the program except what is on the website (which is not very much). Any information would help my curiousity.

is there any evening accellerated class in nyc area

Hi!

I am thinking of applying to the accelerated program. Can anyone tell me how many applications do they get and how many are accepted? I just wanted to evaluate my chances before I apply for Fall 2007.

Does anyone know about the combined BS-MS program they mention on the NYU website? Has anyone else gone through the Accelerated BSN portion and decided to continue on into the MS portion?

Thanks!

Hello

I'm near graduation @ NYU and the nursing school accepts 30% from the entire pool of applicants. If you've 3.0 gpa or higher for all your required pre-req and overall classes, I think you should be fine getting in. I think getting into NYU is the easy part but getting through the entire program is more difficult (my point of view).

I'm in the Accelerated BSN but not doing MS until later b/c I really want to work first and get some real experience. Plus, I don't want to take out anymore loan(s) to continue my education. I rather let my future employer pays for it which I think is the best way to obtaining my MS degree. My two cents!

Good luck!

Thanks for replying Sammi! Can you tell me how much the cost of the program is? I looked on the NYU website, but it did not actually give me a number.

If you're doing full-time (12+ credits), it runs approx. $16,000 per semester plus registration fee, lab fee, and health insurance (not included in tuition). So, your entire education could cost you anywhere from $65,000 to $70,000 for 4 semesters. Also, books, supply, and transportation (to clinicals) will cost you few hundreds a semester. I'm not too worry about the huge loans b/c with the nursing salary that is being offer now, it will take me no time paying back.

Here is the link for NYU's tuition: http://www.nyu.edu/bursar/tuition.fees/rates.06/springfall.ug.tuitionUntu.html

Hope this help!

Hello all,

Just feeling a bit anxious waiting for "the letter". I applied to the 15-month BSN track for Spring 2007...and they claim that letters will be sent some time after Nov 15...the wait is getting to me! Anyone know how many people they are accepting for the Spring start? From all the wonderful things I keep reading about NYU, I just reeeealy want to get in and have a chance to experience it for myself! Anyone else out there anxiously waiting? Good luck to all!

Hi. I graduated from NYU last spring and was in the pediatric dual-degree program. That means that during your senior year there, you have to take at least one master's level class. I took Intro. to Biostatistics. You can take more if you have credits remaining and if you wish to. Then, after graduation, you are automatically accepted into the Master's program for nursing at NYU, as long as you graduate with I think a 3.0. You can start right away, or you can take a year off and continue later. You don't have to take your GRE's and all that. During your last semester, you meet with your master's advisor and plan out your options.

dodo, you asked about evening classes. I'm not sure about now, but for the last 4 years, many of the classes, at least the lecture component, were in the evening, at 4:55-7:35. Clinicals are an all day thing, and labs are offered several times a day.

Hope this helps!

:w00t: Hooray! I found out today that I got into the 15-month accelerated program at NYU starting in January!! Yowza, I have a big move ahead of me! Anyone else found out yet?

:smiley_aa

Good luck to everyone else who applied!

:welcome: to NYU!

I'm very near graduation (May 07') and cannot believe I'm also done with nursing school. After this semester, I only have 3 more classes to go for Spring 07' and I'm completely done. Super excited!!!! I think NYU did a great job in preparing me for the real world. I think you'll like NYU too.

Good luck!!

Hello!

It depends on how much money you're willing to spend. I have classmates from out-of-town living anywhere from NYU's dorm to Westchester (upstate NY) and New Jersey. Apartment from Manhattan is super expensive, a studio can starts at $2000 or more each month. If you don't mind traveling, Queen or Brooklyn are good choice. Again, the travel time depends on which part of town you choose. I think Astoria (Queen) is pretty decent place to live and very close to a lot of clinical sites.

Don't forget to pack your down jacket and snow boot for the winter!

Hope this help--good luck!
