GNs/NEW RN's-- How much $$ are you getting per hour?

Published

Just curious to you GNs and new RN's out there.. how much money per hour did your facility start you at, and what department do you work in? Any sign on bonuses?

Well, before I took NCLEX and was working as a GN my base pay was $19.00 an hour. I worked nights so I got an additional $3.00 an hour for that so I was making $22.00 an hour for nights. Weekends would go up to about $25.00 an hour I believe.

Right now I am in my PCT role and making $12.50 base and $13.25 for nights BUT once I re-take my boards in October and pass them then I will be back up to the $22.00 an hour for nights.

That is not bad at all considering I live in the Mid-west in an area where the cost of living is pretty nice.

I also signed a 2 year commitment since they gave me $18,000 before I graduated from nursing school. The commitment is on a temporary hold until I pass my boards and then once I pass boards the commitment has to be extended. So if I pass my boards in october when I re-take them which I will then instead of working for them until June 2005 I have to work for them until October 2005 unless I pay them the remaining amount.

I work weekends--with shift diffs I make $25.25 for first 8 hours and then $27.25 for next four...pretty sweet I think.

Wow, you guys are making out! I make 19.89 per hour. Shift diff is 2.50, I think. On each of my paychecks, I get overtime- 5 minutes here, 10 minutes here at the end of each shift (and trust me, if I could get out of there right at 0730 each shift, I would). My checks are still pretty nice.

For those of you that work 12 hour shifts, do you get paid for 36 hours or 40?

Get paid for actual hours worked. I work 3 12's but usually have to be there 15 minutes early for report and usually end up leaving a little late. So usually get paid for 37-38hrs.

22.23/hr. in DE in OR for day shift; no oncall, weekends, or off shifts for 9 months. No sign on bonus.

I work in a Chicago hospital in L/D.

My rates are $20.50 base pay.

Work nights: $3.75 shift diff.

Weekends is an additional $2.00 diff.

I was lucky and obtained a $3,000.00 signon bonus payable over the first year, and I just found out that they started a loan forgiveness program, don't know the details just yet though.

New grad RN working at a hospital in downtown St Paul, MN. We have been told we have the "best contract" in MN. We get day shift base (for BSNs) of $23.10/hr. I work straight nights and get $4/hr shift differential. Only $750 signing bonus, free parking (big deal when you're downtown), twice yearly night shift bonus pay, lots of paid vacation. Triple time on XMAS or XMAS eve (other holidays are either time and a half or double time), and--get this---time and a half on your birthday. Full benefits including 401K, pension, insurance. $1.25/ hr more on weekends, $100 bonus for picking up weekends. Overtime is time and a half for the 1st four hours and double time for the second 4 hrs. Quite a departure from college cockail waitressing!

Contract negotiations are going on now and if I have to strike I'll be crabby! MN has a very low vacancy rate for RNs compared to other states; see what happens when you pay people what they deserve?
