Gloucester County College Students Sound Off!

Hi folks!

I'm about to enter Nursing 1 at GCC and I thought this would be a pretty opportunity to set up a place to vent and get advise. I'm both excited and nervous about this fall. Maybe it's because every chance the faculty speaks to us, they make it seem we should consider forgetting everything in our lives and just prepare for the most difficult task ever undertaken by man. Not that I think it's not going to be difficult, but common! Anybody else have any thoughts?

Ohh.. and bye the way, Congrats on getting in and God help us!

Well the staff are supportive of those who go the extra yard to excel. Basically, if you want to succeed, you have every available avenue in which to. I am in the first semester of the program and I can say that the staff do make themselves available to those who reach out for support.

Anyone have experience taking an online course at GCC? I am registered for an online course for Spring 2008 and I am clueless about how it works. I just went to WebCT, but they don't have the Spring courses up yet. Will I automatically be able to login to WebCT and see my course's homepage once the semester begins?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me! The GCC website wasn't particularly helpful, in terms of trying to figure out how the online courses work...

I was just looking at the admission packet and have some questions about how they weigh applications.

Do they average all of your science courses from "2001 to present" or just the most recent and applicable ones? I ask because my Gen Chem, Gen Bio, A&P, Microbio, and Nutrition grades are all great, but I also have some lesser grades in Organic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry.

And are the HESI results and science grades really the only criteria? I have a ****** GPA from Rutgers, but a good one from Camden County. And they won't even interview? At least that means I won't be asked about my terrible 3 semesters in a row, in which I accumulated 3 F's, 10 W's, and 1 B:)

Just how much preference is given to in-county residents. Nothing is mentioned about it in the packet.

You need a minimum of a 75% on the HESI exam and a science grade from A&P I, A&P II, or Bio I or II AND Chem I or II.

The website states "preference may be given to in-county students."

If you want to Wow them, despite your 3 rough semesters, do REALLY well on the HESI. I mean really, really well. That 75% score is just the *minimum* they will consider. Notice how much the HESI, in total, counts for on your admissions application -- I forget if it's 60% or 70%, but it's huge.

As for your grades, the application form asks you to list the science course(s) that should be considered: EITHER 1 semester of college chem and bio OR A&P I OR A&P II. If you got As in A&P, I would use them, because it shows you've already completed some of the first year curriculum.

They have mandatory meetings, starting every September, where prospective applicants can ask questions. Definitely go to one of them, if for no other reason that your application is considered incomplete if you don't include the piece of paper they give you at that meeting.

Good luck!

Is anyone else looking forward to this semester ending besides me?:lol2:

The end of another semester:tbsk:
