Gloucester County College Nursing HESI exam question

Published

:typing Hi everyone!! Im applying to GCC nursing program this fall 2009. I have heard that its very competitive and was wondering if anyone could tell me what they got on there HESI exam, which got them into the program? The minimum that they need just to apply is 75%, I got an 81% and am concerned that my average will not be high enough to secure me a spot for the fall. Any insight is appreciated!! Congratulations to all who are currently enrolled in the nursing program and good luck to all those who are applying!

Sincerely Thank you

Angelina:D

Is this the DVD by any chance? http://product.half.ebay.com/Taylors-Interactive-Nursing-Skills_W0QQtgZinfoQQprZ59771978 I really hope this is something that can be purchased separately as I already got my text (sixth edition BTW) for a 1/4 of what the bookstore wanted.[/quote']

Those aren't the CDs that I got with my book last Fall.... and I'd guess they updated the first semester books since DIC Hardwould was a student because my skills DVD series has 17 DVDs in it, each with 4-6 skills. It's called Taylor's Video Guide to Clinical Nursing Skills.

They looked like this: http://www.amazon.com/Taylors-Video-Clinical-Nursing-Skills/dp/0781768136/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1249359830&sr=8-1

That being said, they may have been updated since last Fall (Fall 2008). Maybe you could go to the bookstore and ask them for the ISBN number? It's worked for me a couple times. Sometimes they allow it and sometimes they don't, depends on who and how you ask.

Edited to add: Sorry Mimi, I missed your second message with this same link in it. Late night reading comprehension ftl ;)

Does anyone know exactly what is in the Perfect Package? I can't remember....

the nursing fundamentals book, med-math, and the clinical skills dvds

I just noticed that our professors have been assigned! I thought I would mention it in case anyone else was anxious to see who they had:-)

A PDA with Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary and Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses makes life simpler because you won't have to lug either of those two books around to do careplans after clinical is over each time.

Hmm, I think I missed this the first time I read through this thread. Should I expect to be on site for a while doing careplans (or anything)after clinical is over? I'm just wondering so I can plan better. Thanks.

Hey, I don't believe so. I think your expected to complete your care plans at home. I have a few friends that are going into their second year and I've seen them doing them at home.

And as far as PDA or books... If you have a PDA then I think it would be a good idea to get the PDA version, but I wouldn't get a new phone unless your ready for an upgrade.

And just to let you guys with PDA's know, I downloaded epocrates (free) and WebMD (also free) and they both have drug guides...

To answer your question: when I went through the program (2007-2009) they changed their guidance for completing careplans from finishing them at home (bringing them back the following week) to doing them before post-conference in a conference room in the hospital we held clinical rotations at.

We used to break at 1200-1230 for lunch, complete careplans from then until 1415, and hold post-conference from 1415 until 1515.

We would complete our careplans throughout our shift as we gathered information on our patient.

By 4th semester, having three patients per student, we would hand-in our careplan the following week as we had during semesters one and two.

I hope this answers your question.

Lastly, it all depends upon the adjunct or full-time professor that manages your clinical experience.

Good luck to you.

It is a nice luxury looking up medications prior to administration with a PDA rather than a Davis's Drug Guide. You can wipe down the PDA with an ETOH prep and keep the germs in the hospital instead of letting them hop a free ride home in between the pages of one of your books.

It really is a nice luxury. I haven't even started yet, but I already love having the PDA. My phone was going as it was, and since I was due for an upgrade I decided to get the Blackberry Bold. I haven't gotten Taber's yet, but I have everything else, including the Davis' Comprehensive Handbook of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications. It'll be so nice to not have to lug books around the hospital. Plus, the germ thing is great. My daughter actually have a bit of an immune disorder (IgA defiency) which makes her more prone to certain illnesses, so it'll be nice to have to not worry as much about bringing something home.

I just took it this April. I used this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Testing-Remediation-Comprehensive-NCLEX-RN%C3%82%C2%AE-Examination/dp/1416047751/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254860222&sr=8-2

I also did the questions (500 or 550?) that came with the bundled cd-rom.

Good luck :)

When I took it last year, I used the HESI Admission Assessment Study Guide, and that helped me. It looks like the book DIC Harwould suggested might be better, but I figured I'd let ya know anyway :)

Are you taking it soon?
