Glendale community College Spring 202

U.S.A. California

Updated:   Published

Hi guys,

I barely found out about this website, which I found extremely helpful. I am a pre nursing student, recently completed all my pre-reqs. I'm applying in all Los Angeles county colleges, but I'm really scared my GPA is a 3.3 and I haven't yet taken the TEAS IDK if I should wait till I apply? because I know sometimes they invite you to take it bc I need more studying. I got a B in anatomy and physiology and an A in micro. But I have a W on anatomy because I tried taking it in the Summer for like a week and gave up. Worst mistake of my life. Anyway I feel pretty unconfident to be honest, because I know its extremely competitive. I'm applying to Pierce, Glendale, Pasadena, Moorpark, Valley, and college of the canyons. Just thought I made this so we can all share our application experience, current or previous. I'm lacking motivation because of my low GPA and I'm super scared of taking the TEAS and doing bad.

The wait is killing me guys. Is anyone else applying to lavc too?

I applied to lavc as well. I wonder when they will let us know. Have you heard anything from there?

I haven't heard anything from valley. The counselor I met with said she hoped I got admitted and when I turned in my application the guy behind the desk said we'll hear back by like November or December. I know I qualify for the lottery it's just a waiting game though.

I'm waiting too. I think the 15th is the deadline for them to get back to us. Hoping for tomorrow? Regardless, we will all know soon.

Hi! Thank you so much for making yourself available to our questions! Like what were your stats when applying for the program? How many times did you apply? Where did you apply? Do you enjoy the gcc program?

Of course! I remember waiting to hear back and going nuts/wishing I had someone to help answer questions.
1. My stats were okay! For GCC they use a lottery system to select their candidates, so grades don’t matter too much as long as you meet their chancellors formula requirement (and if you took the TEAS then you definitely met it!). I had gotten B’s in anatomy, Physio, and micro. And all A’s on the rest of my generals. At the time I think my GPA was a 3.5. On the teas I got an 86.

2. I got in on my first application! I initially got what’s called an “alternate” spot. But then a student didn’t claim their seat so I was moved into the program. Aside from the 40 seats, there are 10 more alternate positions for students to fill in case people decide to reject their offers. These 10 students are guaranteed a spot in the next semester if spots don’t end up opening during the semester they applied for.

3. I only applied to GCC!

4. I can’t not stress enough how wonderful GCC is! The professors, the classes, the opportunities, and the clincial sites are absolutely amazing. Our program has one of the only Preceoptorships left at community colleges! Can’t recommend this schooo enough. It has a wonderful reputation in the area, a high NCLEX pass rate, and our alumni have no problems getting jobs.

How did GCC reach out to you? By email or phone call? Around what time did. You hear back from them?

I just called them. They have had more applications this time than they had had ever before. I was told to secure a sport at another school because chances are so low. Also they will be sending out letters in batches. Some of us might hear back very late.
