Did you Augmentin or is there a new drug to give when people argue?
Call the pharmacy with any question about a dose.

Are we discussing Augmentin?
(as opposed to Argumentin)

What??? I'm confused...and guessing English is not your first language? Never heard of argumentin, what does 20mL have to do with it, is confracted a word? what is a shot life?
Although I don't even know what you're asking, it sort of sounds like a question for the pharmacist...

"what is a shot life?"
That's the time elapse between saying, "Bartender, give me a shot.", and than saying, "I'll follow that up with a beer."

For the love of God....I can see that English isn't the OP's first language (at least I certainly hope not) but they did have enough brain function to find a nursing forum and knew to question the dose since they were unfamiliar with the standard dose, but 2 things really irk the heck out of me:
#1- peds doses are WEIGHT based, NOT age based- .......
AND
#2- if the OP could find his/her way to this site, why not a reputable website that can either give info on dosage based on weight so she would know what the range for normal would fall into, as well as all the other specifics, or a site that could advise on a good Pharmacology book for pediatric nurses...??
This is a prime example of what is meant by lack of critical thinking skills.
Honestly, does the OP think a nurse will tell her/him how to administer a drug to a patient they know nothing about??
I'm sure I will be flamed for this comment, but in all honesty, I am frightened at the lack of "critical thinking skills", which I believe is commonly used as a euphemism for common sense, in many people posting here who are at least claiming to be nurses.

you probably mean augmentin or generic name amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium, right?
i never worked peds but this sounds like a good question for the pharmacist. i always call the pharmacist for their advise when i have a med question. it is their specialty so they should know. but before you call, please make sure you look up the med first yourself and start from there. in your case, have the md order in front of you and the latest weight of the child.
i give you kudos for asking question when you don't know whether the dose is safe or not.

my hospitals intranet has a pharm tab that you can find policies on IV medications and if i couldn't find it there i would call the pharmacy for confirmation you need to cover your own butt
