have several great travelers and lots of ideas for gifts except that they really don't need more stuff to bring with them when they move. and we don't yet know where they are going so not sure what gift certificates to get. also, want to do something original beyond a goodbye party..something special to let them know that just because it was only 13 weeks or so their presence and brief friendship was much appreciated. have some good ideas but would love some more if you have the time for suggestions..thanks!

Hi, I would give them gift cards for restaurants; probably the chain-variety type. I love to give gift cards because people can pick out their own gifts.

a gift certificate to amazon.com is great because they can buy what they want: books, videos, all sorts of stuff. I request these from my family for birthdays because they add up and I can use them a few dollars at a time if I want. Love spending someone else's money! BTW, I have worked with some great travelers too.

We usually just have a potluck since they generally sign on at the same time and will be leaving at the same time.

mother/babyRN,
How kind you are. I'm a traveler. Don't expect gifts but get them. Bothers me that gift-getting stresses my peers. Feel I should show my appreciation for all those who make my work possible. And do. Food. Yup. Food. Staff just love being treated to breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, more snacks. The best gift I receive from y'all is orientation. It takes longer than the 1-2 days we get from the Ed Coordinator. LN

usually everyone brought in food on my last night and maybe a card. I got a nice present when I had spent 9 months at a place in North Carolina. It was one of those tapestry afghans of the North Carolina coast. Reminds me of them everytime I snuggle up with it to watch tv or read a book.

I work in mother/baby now and am interested in travelling, but the websites I've looked at don't seem to have much need for this type of travelling nurse. Is there not much of a need for Mother/Baby travelling nurses? If so, what firms should I look at? Any suggestions?

Linus...I have seen more M/B positions posted for travelers in New Mexico and Arizona. I tried traveling and had a couple of bad experiences. Most want you to do L&D.
Good luck in your search.

i've been a traveler for 8 years now and really appreciate the hospitals that let me know in any way that they enjoyed having me there. one of the nicest gifts i got was from a hospital in nevada (you all know who you are if any of you are reading this!). the nurses there started me one of those italian charm bracelets with each of them picking a charm that reminded them of me or signified the area (i swear that little slot machine has brought me luck!). i've continued to add a charm from each assignment since then, so this was really special (and portable).
