Gift suggestions for macho guy in hospital

Published

My mother's brother is in the hospital. He's one of those "macho guys" who would die of embarrassment if we sent flowers. Please let me know your gift suggestions for this guy. Thanks ?

I can understand not wanting flowers, but would a plant be received with the same reluctance?

That is a great idea, and if he has a sense of humor, the Chia pet thing was great!!! If money isn't an object, a bonsai tree would be cool for a guy.

Specializes in Med-surg; OB/Well baby; pulmonology; RTS.

I would think a goodie basket with some snacks and fruit (as long as his diet allows goodies like chocolate and stuff). If he likes to read, maybe a new bestseller? I've always gotten magazines (hunting, fishing, sports) for my step-dad and BIL.

Specializes in Happily semi-retired; excited for the whole whammy.

Wow, Gompers, great minds think alike. I was thinking of a bonsai tree, too!

you know what they always say...the way to a mans heart is through his stomach...or something like that LOL...bring him food! that is as long as its ok!

Thanks all-great suggestions ? I have sent him some gourmet chocolate chip cookies gift basket. He is in ICU. He's an alcoholic and his friend had found him unconscious on the floor of his apartment. The hospital believes he had been on the floor for many days and that he went through DT's while lying on the floor.

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

Another suggestion is to send flowers, but attach a sign that says "Real Men Like Flowers."
