Gift suggestions for macho guy in hospital

Published

My mother's brother is in the hospital. He's one of those "macho guys" who would die of embarrassment if we sent flowers. Please let me know your gift suggestions for this guy. Thanks ?

tickets to soemthing in the area and event /concert/sporting event or movie passes. gift certificate to homedepot or a similar store, or a sporting goods store.

Be a little annoying and send him the flowers. JK

If he doesn't have a dietary restrictions, there are great looking (and tasting!) cookie bouquets out there. Or to be a little healthier, maybe a fruit basket with lottery tickets tucked in the fruit? If he's got a good sense of humor, maybe something like a Tonka truck (since he's macho, better than a stuffed animal!! LOL!) with the back of it filled with lottery tickets, sugar free candy, portable poker games, etc.....whatever he likes? It's tough to get gifts sometimes!! Oh, there are also Dammit dolls which are pretty cute! I'll send the link. They come with a little poem....but you have to send for them I believe! Unless the hospital gift shop has them.

Read the poem, it's right on the page!! It's pretty cute!!

Good luck, and I hope your uncle gets better soon!

That's what I would do. (hee hee) :rotfl:

Those dammit dolls are cute. Too bad you can't send in a picture and have one made to look like someone you'd like to slam around, complete with his/her style of clothing. :rotfl:

Anyway, without knowing anything about your uncle, it's very hard to say what he would like. If he likes to fish, you could get a fishing basket or hat, fill it with fishing gear and wrap it up all nice and pretty. (I'd love that!) Does he hunt? Cook? Paint or draw? Play baseball? Video games? What does he watch on TV? Just think about what he likes and go from there. Maybe if you shared some of it with us, we could help you out more, too.

I like the Home Depot or Lowe's gift card idea as well.

~A gift cert for a dinner out when he is well!

~A mans tolietry baskets (gotta love dollar stores!) with nice masculine deoderant, nail clippers, toothbrush, toothpaste, BACK SCRATCHER (he will love you for that!) and the like.

~ A subscription to a mans mag like Maxim (not x rated but manly) or a hunting/car/fishing one..whatever his likes are. But get him the recent issue so he can read it while he waits for the next one :).

~Tell him he is moving to a shared ward..and get him soap on a rope..LOL!

~A gift cert for a massage or foot rub (this is actually very requested believe it or not!).

~Books, word puzzles or what not to keep him entertained.

or this one was hillarious when I walked in on a patient and the family bought him this so he was entertained by the nurses reactions....they have these spilled beer or wine glasses that are plastic but look so REAL! I walked in and was like HUH? Oh we got a good laugh from that!

What does he like to do...start there too! Like my bro loves guitars...I would have brought his in, and got him little guitar trinkets (and betty boop..he loves betty boop) from the dollar store or a party supply store and fill a fun basket full of them! Along with a CD player and a favorite CD of his!

Hope he is better in no time!

My male friend was in the hospital for a long and we bought him a chia pet. It was funny and it made him laugh.

my fil is macho exemplified.

yrs ago, he went to a detox center to dry out.

he always had his own little space downstairs in the basement with a tv and mini-fridge.

when he came home, i gave him a dozen roses (much to dh's disapproval) and he said to me "Jesus Christ, you don't give a guy flowers" and said it in such disgust.

so i went upstairs and around 10 minutes later started going downstairs again when i found him rearranging the flowers, making sure everything was perfect. i rushed upstairs very quietly so he wouldn't be embarrassed.

when we got home, i told dh about it and he was shocked, but pleasantly so.

anyway, i like the idea of lottery tickets, iou's, a gadgety remote control but nothing beats the place of company.

hope all is well soon.

I can understand not wanting flowers, but would a plant be received with the same reluctance?
