My final placement is almost up and I want to get something nice for my preceptor that's not too expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks :)

The best gift is a sincere note about how she's helped you -- and shoot an email to her boss about what an awesome preceptor she is.

Maybe a mix of everyone's suggestions? A cute tumblr cup filled with a gift card, a bath bomb or some sort of trinket, and a nice note/card about how you enjoyed the experience.I'm sure she'll appreciate anything that comes from your heart!

Thoughtful and hand-written letter. I still remember my first preceptor ever, and how she believed in me. This was back on the floor.
Then in the ICU I went through two preceptors that questioned me at every turn and doubted me! Then I met the preceptor that would believe in me, and give me the tools for true indipendence in the ICU.
I remember him fondly and he's a truly spectacular nurse and person. He cares about our patients on a visceral level, always coming up with ideas to help comfort patients, families, and their children.
When I'm having a negative Nancy day, I think about my preceptor! I'm not sure if he knows how much I truly appreciate him, I never considered giving him a letter much less a gift (didn't know how it would be perceived coming from another guy) to be honest.
However, I think the best way to show him my appreciation is by being the best nurse possible and carrying on his examples of good nursing care.

I gave a little card with a nice note, and a small Amazon gift card as I figured she could buy herself a book or some other little thing she'd been wanting but hadn't spent the money on for herself.

A card expressing the specific ways your preceptor helped and a letter expressing the same to her boss.
This. I save my cards because they're wonderful to read through every now & then. This is especially true of the ones I have from my supervisor, telling me about the thank-you cards that they received from my clients.

This, and a manicure is always nice, too.
