My final placement is almost up and I want to get something nice for my preceptor that's not too expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks :)

Houseplant, bouquet of cut flowers, home made cookies or brownies, a recipe mix in a Mason jar, hand cream, foot soak (you can home-make this in a Mason jar, too), a small journal or pretty calendar book, scented candle, coffee mug, nice hand soap, etc.
Basically, any small luxury that s/he might not take the time or money to buy her/himself. Thanks for being thoughtful :)

Pair of socks w/ cool design and preferably wicking material.
Most important, though, would be your words of appreciation (card).
Thanks for your ideas :) much appreciated!

I bought mine some really nice pens because the hospital didn't supply those for staff. She really like them

A card expressing the specific ways your preceptor helped and a letter expressing the same to her boss.

If preceptor likes some specific thing, then something connected with it. One of my preceptors was a hunter, and he got a gift card for a local outdoor sports store. If not, then something generally pleasant any nurse could use, like a pen with flashlight or a nice notebook.
Just IMHO - please ask about food allergies before you bring any homemade stuff to a particular person. Box of homemade cookies or fudge definitely sounds very nice but in our days many people are on restricted diet of all kinds. It feels embarassing when a thankful student brings you something you definitely appreciate but cannot even touch.

A nice water bottle or coffee mug are a good option. Hydroflasks are all the rage right now and come in so many colors. I love my 32 oz water bottle one, keeps water cold for hours and helps me get my water intake in and they don't sweat and get everything wet. I have a smaller one for my night stand. A lot of companies etch cool designs on them. Maybe not super cheap, will run you 20-50 dollars depending on size. I have 4 of them and they all have a use haha. I use the smaller one for my coffee. Wont spill in my bag, and coffee will honestly stay warm until 2 pm if I haven chugged it by 9 am yet.

Nothing.
That is what I tell my new grads, and so far, that is what I have received.
I don't want or need another trinket, and I know they make less than I do.
Seeing them become independent and making their own decisions is awesome in and of itself.
If you feel you just have to get something, just a nice card with a personal thank you in it.
