Okay this is getting quite ridiculous. Can a person bee too happy?
Well, I leave all my negitivity at home. Don't bring it too work. Well, for my last three jobs (this is my first as a nurse) I get into trouble for being too happy. Too tone it down a little.
This facillity is so unorganized and they have someone who isn't even my manager and just as happy as I am tell me, for a half an hour. There was an admission (I work in LTC) and I was already behind.
I just don't get what they want me to tone down...
I work with people who act even worse... :angryfire
I started looking for another job, because what if I am too happy again I will get written up.
Do you think this is overacting?

By "too happy", what are they telling you?

It all depends on what they mean by too happy. I would talk with your supervisor. I've seen too happy, like airhead happy, and it can get very annoying. It can seem unprofessional too. But if you are just being positive, then I don't see what the big deal is, unless they are all miserable and want you to act the same way??? But don't feel bad. I once got wrote up for the way I said yes to my supervisor. Apparently the way I said yes was with an attitude which in turn compromised resident care and effected the moral of my coworkers. No joke! It was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard! Some people just need someone to pick on sometimes...looks like you were their target that day.

My coworker and I once got 'spoken to' by our manager because there was a complaint from another employee that we were having too much fun at work. We were complained against for laughing w/ our patients, and basically just having a good time with them. The manager said it was kind of ludicrus but she had to just mention it to us. We had a good laugh over that. We were later lauded by our next manager for having such positive attitudes and praised for how well we worked together and how much the patients like us. The disgruntled employee by the way was fired. (not for that but for worse stuff)
Having too much fun basically. There was another nurse that was targeted for that as well. I am finding that it is getting more deeper they even pulled my coworker into the office to see if we were getting along. It is getting quite ridiculous.
I haven't been a nurse for that long and it makes me feel like do we all have to be like Nurse Rachett. Maybe I don't have the personality to work in Long Term Care.

I would rather have a "happy" nurse, than deal with a crab. Have one of those at work, already. Heck....even my DON is well known for being a total rip (unless being called several choice names by rezzies caught being really bad)

I think there can be such a thing as too happy if said happiness interferes with getting your work done or other people's ability to get their work done. Seems like it would have made more sense for your supervisor to give you specific examples of what the problem areas are, though, instead of addressing the emotion that drives them.

Define "too much fun". I'm still not getting a clear picture about what your manager was upset about.
As to laughing with folks in LTC, it is a great joy to do so and I only wish there were more folks like that.

If by too much fun you mean that you whistle while you work, I don't see the problem. If the problem is that you whistle instead of work, why, then, yes, I'd say perhaps you are too happy.
I had a habit of humming . . .drove people crazy. Mostly my family - I stopped doing it as a teen.

Don't give up your cheerfulness for anything or anyone, it is a part of who you are. They are sooooooo miserable, they can't stand your smiles. Just smile at them and thank them for the information and move on. DO NOT let their misery bring you down..... Just take care of your patients and help them to smile.

Keep your cheerful smile and disposition. While giving professional
care, you are a bright spot:saint: in your patients day.
Quietly, find a job where you can be yourself.
Then, let this manager hire a team of . That will be a
sad day for the patients................
And we wonder why there is a nursing shortage??????????????
