Getting a verbal for being too happy.

Published

Okay this is getting quite ridiculous. Can a person bee too happy?

Well, I leave all my negitivity at home. Don't bring it too work. Well, for my last three jobs (this is my first as a nurse) I get into trouble for being too happy. Too tone it down a little.

This facillity is so unorganized and they have someone who isn't even my manager and just as happy as I am tell me, for a half an hour. There was an admission (I work in LTC) and I was already behind.

I just don't get what they want me to tone down... :uhoh3:

I work with people who act even worse... :angryfire

I started looking for another job, because what if I am too happy again I will get written up.

Do you think this is overacting?

I just don't like toads. Happy people are annoying, sometimes - but at least they are happy. Better than the bitter folks.

Edit: I can only handle negative people in low doses. My mother is a NNP, and I would hate to be her neighbor, she is not a friendly woman - but she's an awesome clinician. She rocks, and I think she fits right into the category of the previous poster - overly cheerful people piss her off :) Oh, that and new nurses that think they know everything - she's having a hard time with that. Gotta love a new nurse that says "we think this kid extubated"... and none of them have a stethoscope...

I've been told I'm too nice. Guess I was just raised to be that way. I don't take sides, I hate gossip, always say please and thank-you, and work like crazy for my patients and my facility.

So what's the problem? People at work see nice as weak, vulnerable, and stupid. Heaven forbid that someone smiles through their day. Over the years that has really drug me down, down, down.

I've always appreciated the energy that accompanies happiness and inner contentment. I love working with happy and content people. There is so much more to be learned, accomplished, and appreciated in this venue of teamwork...all positives! I just don't understand the draw of crude and nasty. I do, however, sadly see it's tremendous power!

It just seems inbred for some people to jump on someone elses back to appear taller than it is to put in the personal effort to actually grow taller.

Where do you work? Pediatric booboo care? It's hard for me to be cheerful when people I care for are dying. I try to be positive, but bubbly is not always good.

Not saying I'm a grinch, but if my wife/gf was dying of pancreatic ca at 50, and you flitted into the room like tinkerbell; I'd want to deck you.

Happyhappyhappy is not always appropriate.

I think the word we are looking for is MODERATION. I try to be happy and up beat at work for the residents (I am in LTC), and I want the people I work with to be, at least, pleased that I am at work. But, I try to use some common sense. Perkiness drives me up the wall, and you just can't laugh at everything. Also, not every situation needs a special saying.

Exactly.

Seriously, who in there right mind would be bubbly at work, especially during a death. Cut it out! That is jumping to conclusions.
