St. Francis Hospital on long island had a program, they would pay up to $500 a month towards your student loans, if u worked nights for them. With the economic crisis I don't know if this program still exists.

You're kidding right? "Loan forgiveness" program??? Why would you not plan to pay back your loans? You want to be responsible for the lives of others but you can't be responsible enough to pay your own debts??? Step up and be responsible for your actions...Regardless of your personal circumstances.

I offer no apologies for getting up on a soapbox and being blunt.

I'm a very reasonable person and your reply was out of line.

It wasn't fair of you to jump down OP throat like that. Loan forgiveness is not just free money- you do have to give up a part of your freedom, sign a contract and agree to work at a hospital for a certain amount of time. I don't see how there is anything wrong with that. At all.

the loan forgiveness is a program, where an institution, pays the the loan for you...

I find it comical that they call it the Loan "forgiveness" program...lol

Has any one gotten rid of the majority of their nursing loans yet? Or plan to? Are you aware of any Loan Forgiveness programs in New York City?

ur comment is about 2 years old, but i've heard of it, but they have like a deadline.. and sometimes, they may have it offered one year, and not the following year. they didn't have it, last year because of the buget cuts or something of that nature...

nursing school is expensive..

i definately enourage you to take whatever options, in school loans...

there is the HRSA, that also pays for school loans.. its very tideous, the application process is a HEADACHE! good luck

WHOOOOOOOOOOA!....

Dude... who pooped in your cornflakes this morning? Perhaps you are not aware that many loan forgiveness programs involve nurses working in underpaid jobs in areas where most people would never want to work (ie, inner city areas, indian reservations)... so please stow the self-righteousness, eh? It's not like you are not taking care of your responsabilities or getting free money... you are offering a service that the govnerment compensates you for.

To the OP... yes their are opportunities out there but you have to scout around for em. All I know is that the navajo reservation has a hospital that pays you 16/h and you will have up to 20k forgiven from your loans for a two year commitment. People are needed in these areas and thats why they offer loan forgiveness.

Don't pay attention to the first poster. He/she was WAYYYYYYY out of line and didn't even have clue what he/she was talking about.

There are various federal programs that allow a nurse to defer, forgive or will pay part of student loads. You can look them up via Google or the fed's own student loan websites.

Recently the current administration made changes to the student loan program, two of which deal with the maximum amount one would have to pay per month, and having a loan forgiven. IIRC, the later part involves making payments over twenty years. While you can look these up as well, the terms only apply to loans made after a certian recent date. Existing loans are bound by the terms agreed upon.
