Yay! I was in tears this afternoon. So excited. Thanks for that, sc892010. That's a great way to think about it! But I don't want to get my hopes up just to be let down. I have mixed feelings. May can't come soon enough. I feel like I am in the dark about so much that I will have to do. Students accepted right off the bat know what scrubs or stethescopeto buy, which cpr class and where to sign up for, or have first pick for which class time they want. (Or at least that's what I am guessing is included the packet along with immunization forms and other paperwork) That is the kind of stuff that will stress me out. I am learning to roll with it.
Don't worry. Stuff like the physical and immunizations arent valid until after may 1, so there isn't even much we can do right now. We can't even register for NU 101 until April 23. You can get any stethoscope, but I would wait to order it from the senior year nursing class. They take orders for Littmanns at orientation and they are cheaper. Uniforms can be ordered until mid July. There is alot to do, but nothing is required immediately. And the CPR cert is only good for 2 years, so it's better to wait until after mid-may so you don't have to re-cert until after school is over.
You can do it through The Red Cross someplace else, but there is a list of a bunch of them (like 15) with the paperwork. I honestly didn't look at it too closely yet, but I believe they are right at the college. We have to hand a copy of our cards by the first day of class, so again-no rush there!
Many hospitals have BLS for Healthcare Providers- I took my class two years ago at Hartford Hospital. They have the one day class on Saturday and a few nights during the month. It's like $80 I think...I know CCC Continuing Ed has the classes too, so I am sure the other Community colleges would have them as well.
They only evaluate people for their second choice IF that schools goes through their waitlist (people who listed that school as first choice) and still have seats left. So, once the seats at a school are filled by rank and lottery, everyone who listed that school as their first choice gets put on a waitlist in rank order. Once seats are given up, they start calling people in order on the waitlist. IF they go through the entire list and still have open seats they take everyone who put that school as their second choice and rank them and start calling to offer seats until all seats are filled. So, basically, listing a second choice is pointless...LOL

I called the office today and was told the letters were mailed out from Hartford today! I asked what my number is since I have an advisment meeting and will need my info just in case I dont get that letter before then. I'm number 10! Hoping my number is called, which from what I gather is a good one. So fingers crossed.
