getting a masters degree without a bachelors in nursing?

Published

Hi,

I have a question-- I have heard that you can get a bachelors degree in just about anything (does not have to be nursing) and can still apply for a nursing masters program? Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Thanks for the info.....

Yes, some programs have the RN - MSN bridge program. You have to take a few courses at the BSN level and then proceed to the MSN courses. You also must meet the requirements of the program is you must have your anatomy, physiology, micro, statistics etc., courses in order to be accepted into the RN - MSN program.

It's definitely true here in Ohio. There are multiple programs in my area--I can think of 4 off the top of my head--that offer RN to MSN programs.

I'm curious to know if there are any online programs like this?

Specializes in progressive care telemetry.

Yep. I'm applying to an MSN program for 2nd degree students. As long as you meet their requirements (basically prereq's and GRE scores) your degree can be in anything.

There are plenty of programs as you describe. They are called things like, "Entry Level Masters" or "Direct Entry Masters" programs.

Follow the links above to the AACN site and you'll find all the programs you want.

You should look into a program called Clinical Nurse Leader program. It's a program that trains students who already have a bachelor degree in another field to be a nurse. You will get leadership training, but ultimately when you graduate you will be a novice like a nurse who graduated from a ADN or BSN program. After a few years of practice you can become a charge nurse. The program I am applying to does not require me to take the GRE. You should look into it.

i am from pa and there are programs here that take you straight from ad to msn. i have also seen several online programs that do the same. google rn to msn and i bet you will find a lot.

good luck!!!:specs:

I'm having a hard time finding an online MSN program. The only one I found was University of Phoenix MSN/MBA program. I was hoping for a MSN program. All the other ones seem to want RN's only.

I would like to get an MSN instead of getting a BSN when I already have a M.S. in another area but can't find any in Miami or Broward. Does anyone know of any in those counties?:p
