how to get motivated for pre reqs

Published

How did you guys get motivated during pre reqs. If we want it bad enough we will do anything to get it. I just want to know what anything is.

Realize that if you do not get the best grades possible in these classes, you will have wasted time and money, because your chances of being admitted to the nursing program will be slim to none. There are many 4.0 GPA students who get turned away from some programs.

Oh man thanks for being real with me. Now i know a 4.0 is a must

Do not lose sight of the end of the tunnel! Keep your nursing school goal in your mind at all times, because if you don't, you'll lose focus.

When I started school I couldn't see the end..I couldn't see where I was trying to go or picture myself as a nurse. Once I really sat down and thought about my goals, I had so much success in school. I'm starting a BSN program this fall and I'm more focused than I have ever been!

It's cold, but gpa is the key factor for nursing school, so start collecting those A's! It's not as hard as it seems if you're willing to do the work! Good luck :-)

Thank You so much im taking A&P psychology sociology and english comp how would you rate these classes in difficulty we all know A&P is the most difficult

JonB04 - I took sociology this summer as a pre-requisite to my program

and I think it is really easy. Grant it, I took it at a community college which may have contributed to the "easiness." Sociology is basically rote memorization so it shouldn't be hard. I am taking English Composition I this year and I heard it is basically critical analysis. For psychology, that is super easy! Psychology is something most people "get" because it really pertains to you and its memorization anyway.

thats not true.. by all means, you should strive to do your best in every class, but it is not necessary to get a 4.0 to get into every nursing program. For some programs, maybe, but I would research into the schools you are applying to because none of the schools in my area rule you out if you have below a 4.0 that i know of.. I got into NS with a 3.4, failed clinical :crying2:, which brought my gpa down to a 2.4, took some more prereqs/electives to bring my gpa up to a 2.56, and got into another nursing school with that 2.56 gpa!!

Now obviously, I hope something like that doesnt happen to you, I am just saying, you can do anything if you put your mind to it. No doubt, a 4.0 wont hurt when your applying, but admission is not based SOLELY on gpa. They look at things like volunteer work, science grades are looked at more so than less related class grades, they also take into account scores on tests like the teas or ati entrance exam, and how you answer their interview questions.

Thank you i guess i should volunteer this year and get active. I have one of the worst psychology teachers this year, but atleast he isnt my a&p teacher

Do you know what programs you want to apply to? Do your research beforehand because they all require different things (recommendations, entrance exams, etc)

Example: my school ONLY looked at gpa & classes completed. There were no "required" classes, but having the sciences boosted the application (this is not normal, but it happens!) We didn't have an entrance exam or an official interview, but many "traditional" nursing programs do!

Anyway, Sociology and Psych are easy - some reading, but everything is really straight forward and even interesting. I like writing, so English comp was a breeze for me as well - it's all about keeping up with your assignments and giving your prof what he or she wants! A&P will definitely be your tougher class, but don't let the posts on here scare you! The only difficult part is making the time to study.

Its not the classes that scare me its the 3.5 gpa kids being turned down from the NS program. But im pretry sure those people found a college to take them.

I agree with the volunteering thing. My nursing school told if they have two students one with a 3.7 and one with 3.8, but the one with the 3.7 is volunteering or working they would choose the 3.7 over the 3.8. Let's face it the student with the 3.7 and volunteering is putting a lot more work into their classes then the student with a 3.8 not volunteering or working.

Hi, I just wanted to add not to get into the mindset of certain classes will be an easy A. I took A&P II with Microcomputer Apps., Comp 1 and Sociology last Spring thinking I would have lots of time to concentrate on A&P II. I think of the four classes that Comp 1 was the most challenging and time consuming, def. not an easy A, even though it was one of my best subjects in high school.

I was writing so many essays between Comp and Sociology it was crazy.

Best, L.
