how to get motivated for pre reqs

Published

How did you guys get motivated during pre reqs. If we want it bad enough we will do anything to get it. I just want to know what anything is.

none of my classes will be easy because my teachers are hard

Hi!

I am currently taking my pre-req's but I live in Miami, and I do not know where you live but the schools I am applying to want perfection.

I have 2 other degrees but with the economy I have been laid off twice so I am trying a new career. My natural science courses were past 10 years so I was forced to take them again. I have completed 4 courses all with A's, and have maintained my 4.0 GPA.

I am currently taking 2 courses this semester, and have 4 courses left before I can apply. I am not a spring chicken and I never imagined that I would be back in school so the thought made me nervous, since I have so many responsibilities I could not afford to get anything less than an A because the admissions counselors told me that a 3.81 GPA was the lowest they'd accept and that it would vary since nursing had become so competitive.

Some friends who have graduated, are in-between completing, or just entered are suffering because it is hard.

Study groups help for some people but not for me and you need to figure out which works out best for you, ask your professor questions, show him/her you mean business, stick with people who are positive and will help you, ignore the bully's or the mean people, stand up for yourself, ignore your favorite show or any other distraction because it won't get you the A, if you feel tired take a nap, eat healthy (junk food makes you lethargic), if you feel sick or panicky see a doctor, and be very sure this is what you want to do.

Check Rate My Professors - Find and rate your professor, campus and more - RateMyProfessors.com before you register so you can see what other students are saying about that professor. After my first semester, a friend told me and it has saved me from really bad professors. I have had only one bad one but I still got an A in the end because I studied so much.

Like others have said, stay calm, don't lose perspective, & if this is what you want then you will fight for it.

Oh, some schools have the TEAS or the HESI, well one school in Miami, holds 60% weight on the TEAS & 40% on you GPA, while others its even. Some schools do not do interviews. You have to research that.

Any other questions ask! :lol2:

Yeah i just found out about rate my professor and my psychology teacher. he is so bad but thank god hes not my a&p teacher

Do what you have to do in order to do what you want to do.

I wanted a career that would offer me lots of flexibility and room for advancement within the healthcare field. I worked my bum off to become an LPN, and I'm still working my bum off to finish the BSN degree. At the end of the day, I like what I do and I'm pretty well-compensated for it.

thats good did you find the work overwhelming

thats good did you find the work overwhelming

At times it's overwhelming because you're either at school every day or at clinical or preparing for both. In between, you're getting presentations/ projects started, reports started, and you're reading chapters upon chapters each night. There are surprise quizzes and each quarter is short, so there is no room for improvement if you don't do well on an exam. You HAVE to do well on the exams, quizzes, tests, etc. On top of it all, you have to work, pay bills, and acknowlege the outside world when you come up for air! It's all doable and you can do it!

Well im only taking 4 classes that are pre reqs no job or kids. I guess theres no excuse not getting a 4.0

Don't stress out!!!!! Easier said then done I know, but just relax. Trust me, taking it easy will help in the long run. One can only take so much stress. One day at a time. :) I wanted a 4.0 too didn't happen pretty darn close, but didn't happen. No one's perfect, so just relax. Your freaking yourself out. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Like I said before one day at a time. You know you can do this, have some self confidence. If you don't make a 4.0 it's not the end of the world. You can make a 4.0, but take it one day at a time and breath.

i will try to relax. I have to take it one step at a time. I will be happy if i get a 3.75. I just want to do well enough to get into the NS program. Oh and thank you. I always have to thank everyone that helps me through these tough times.

Thank You so much im taking A&P psychology sociology and english comp how would you rate these classes in difficulty we all know A&P is the most difficult

I didn't find any of these classes hard, neither A&P. It just depends on the student.

Psychology wasn't hard, though my teacher stunk. It was online and a lot of work though. But again, that was because of the teacher I had.

Sociology was fun and a piece of cake.

English comp was easy for me. But I've always been good at writing. I didn't put much effort into it and got an A.

A&P I didn't find hard, but, I had a fabulous teacher. Tests were long, and it took a lot of memorizing, but I wouldn't consider that difficult. However, I know students who failed A&P because they had a difficult teacher.

Your motivation should be the fact that if you do crappy in these classes, you likely won't get into school. If you do crappy enough, you might lose financial aid (yes, some people are at that point.) Also, if you don't learn anything in A&P, you will likely have a hard time in clinical later on.

Also, not every school bases acceptance on the highest GPA. My school has a wait list and it is not GPA based, however, you must keep a 2.5 GPA to stay on the list and stay in clinical.

i need to learn how to keep motivated. Never loosing sight at the end of the tunnel
