how to get into hospital??!

Nurses New Nurse

Published

I  was an LVN for 2.5 years and has been an RN for almost 3 years -( prior to LVN I was a medical assistant for 12+years- I worked by way up with 3 kids)  all of my experience is in skilled nursing and home health.  I have been trying since graduated RN in 2018 to get a job in a hospital, in ca- Bay area and have been unsuccessful.  I do not have BSN yet.  every time I apply to hospital jobs I get rejected with automatic replies stating that they are looking for candidates with " more experience or we found better matches"....how do I get  the experience  of hospital work and/or a chance to work in a hospital if I can't get into hospital??

I have revised her resume several times. I have asked friends  they say it looks good. I I am not thinking of having it professionally done to see if that helps.  but  I am  lacking "hospital experience"  other then my school clinical.  I have applied to new grad as I feel I still am since no hospital experience and I am told that I am not a "new nurse"  because I have had " paid RN jobs?    I am  very discouraged and frustrated and do not know what else to do...do you have any suggestions ?

Specializes in Mental Health.

First step is either move or get your BSN. CA is oversaturated.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency Department.

You are gonna probably need to know someone that works there to put a good word in for you and your BSN. It's the same way where I live - tough to get into the hospital here unless you know someone that can get your application pulled for an interview.

Try for more rural hospital jobs. Often times they are quicker to give you a chance than oversaturated hospital locations. Also try looking for hospital job listings that are hosting a career fair. Of course knowing some one in a hospital helps but if that does not apply to you just be consistent with your Job Search because all you need is one yes.
