My union funded that commercial. AHS is known for finding any cost cutting measure possible. No major hospital prepares food on site. At my hospital, the vast majority is made in Calgary, frozen, trucked up Highway 2, and then nuked.

See, unions aren't the blood sucking leeches that most American posters here seem to think they are.

Wow... Here where I work the push is to make the patients happy... We have dine on demand which is basically room service. They do anything and everything to make the patients happy. We even have several chefs.... I guess that us the difference between private and government insurance.....

I worked in a LTC for about a year and the food was awful. I remember the residents would be so delighted if I would make them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a can of soup, or get them a piece of fresh fruit or something because the food was all gelatinous and bland. I get that some residents have special diets but if there's no appetizing food available who wouldn't get depressed and lose weight?

lol i think there making it out to be worse than it is, ud be surprised, the same sysco truck that drops food off to your ltc facility makes his rounds to the local restraunts droping off shrimp and chicken and meats , other frozen things. Iv ate food at restraunts for 15 dollars a plate that wasnt any better than my ltc food. besides were allready going bankrupt whats ur solution ?

lol besides that , if you think ltc food is bad go live in jail for a couple weeks .... iv done that too hahaha trust me whenever u think you have it the worst theres allways some one some were who has it alot worse than you. jail food is laughable , but if your hungry you will eat it no matter what

So, your state allows licensing after a trip to jail? For some reason I feel you're not an RN or make things up.

So you actually think we should be feeding food to our elderly that is comparable to jail?? Seriously?!?! I'm sorry but in my opinion this people should be served good food prepared in a healthy way. These are our parents and grandparents, none of them deserve to be treated this way.....

Again the tendency to paint all LTCs with the same broad brush. I eat the food at my facility. I add salt of course since most is prepared without, but I'd put my chef's lasagna up against that at any Italian restaurant in the city.

And, that was Canada....not Massachusetts! We dont' need a union to help up serve delicious, healthy food.
