I mailed my Fall 2011 GSU nursing application on Jan. 22. The application deadline is March 1st. As we wait, I invite all applicants, traditional or ACE, to post their program gpa and TEAS version V scores and keep others abreast when they receive an applicaton response. Here are mine:

Program GPA: 3.63

TEAS V: 86.0 (Date 1/15/2011)

Percentile Rank - National: 97

Percentile Rank - Program: 94

As we wait,....

From your knowledge where would you rank GSU nursing school and others around the state?

Thanks ggallo, I've already been accepted to GSU (general admissions) so I will go check that out. I didn't even know where to start because I'm applying to 3 diff schools and everything becomes a blurr after a while. I've already been accepted to Mercer's Nursing Program but still need to figure out the fin aid situation. I'm applying to GSU in addition to Mercer and Emory because I didn't want all my eggs in one basket. I applied to GSU because I think they have a program that is excellent as well as affordable. As far as classes, I made a decision to load up this semester so that I could shoot for nursing school this fall. I'm taking 6 classes and definitely feeling the stress! I'm starting to question if it was a good idea or not but have decided to tough it out. Well, thank you for your insight and I will check back with everyone from time to time. I'm new to this site and I think it's great for everyone to have an opportunity to share their experiences.

I think it is a matter of opinion which one ranks first. Atlanta is fortunate to have several quality nursing programs. GA State's nursing program is at the top of my list for 3 reasons: it is closest to my home, its cost, and the multiple nursing disciplines studied during the program.

Lao Mumbo Jumbo, login in to GSU PAWS (Panther Access to Web Services). Then go to "One Stop Shop,", next "Student Records," and then "View Academic Evaluation." Choose your current semester and then generate the evaluation. I think you will find this helpful. I reference it before registering for classes. Additionally, there you can find your program gpa which is the gpa they reference when considering your application. I don't know of any other place where that gpa is recorded for students to access.

I totally agree with you, it is a matter of opinion. GSU ranks one of my top three for very similar reasons. I will try to get into PAWS and check it out, thanks~

Where did everyone do their prerequisites? If not at GSU, have you had any trouble getting GSU to accept your classes?

If you graduate from a Georgia school (one that qualifies for Hope, that's in the GA system) and you complete their nursing two-year transfer degree, the school that you're going to has to accept it for your pre-nursing. (Though I think if you're going the accelerated route they have a few classes that are pre-reqs that you have to complete at GSU? But if you're traditional, you should be fine.)

And I'm taking six classes too, since I was lazy last semester and dropped a teacher that I didn't like. (English comp II, and he yelled at us the second day of classes for not having our dictionaries. Just a little overzealous.) Had to cut down on my work hours to do it...but then, I work at McDonalds. Anyone else have little to no experience in the healthcare field? (I'm going to volunteer at a hospice this summer, and I've been an in-home sitter, but it wasn't a difficult assignment.)

@lao mumbo jumbo Congrats on your acceptance to Mercer! I am currently in the process of applying. I only need my TEAS score in which I will take next saturday. Mercer is one of my top choices. When did you apply and find out you have been accepted?

@gtnurse2013 - I'm at GPC, doing all my pre-reqs there except for the Nutrition & Human G and D class required to be done at GSU

@tuahla- I have no experience in the healthcare field but was a part time care giver for few yrs 4 my grandmother who had Dementia passed away Sept 2010.

@hlee- thx, I applied on 1/28/2011 and received the letter on 2/03/2011. I was very surprised how fast they responded. They review apps on a rolling basis. Their response deadline is March 2nd and I don't really know what to do at this pt. I won't get a reply from GSU until after March 15th (mst likely in April) and don't want to deny the acceptance from Mercer in case I don't get in GSU. I'll prob have to fork up the $200 to reserve the space at Mercer unless I can see what my financial aid pckg would look like for Mercer before March 2nd.

@lao mumbo jumbo wow. That is a quick response! maybe because you had really good number(TEAS and GPA) Mercers response deadline is march 2nd? Is that for all students or just for you. I will finish my application next week after my test( if I do decent on the TEAS) so hopefully I will hear from them soon... Thanks for your response!

GA State's undergraduate nursing program advisor is Denisa Reed. She is very pleasant to speak with so do not hesistate to call her if you have any questions. She is also very responsive to email. She actually contacted me regarding my transcript and I was able to clarify some things. Her phone number and email are (404) 413.1000 and [email protected].
