Georgia State University, Fall 2011 Application

Published

I mailed my Fall 2011 GSU nursing application on Jan. 22. The application deadline is March 1st. As we wait, I invite all applicants, traditional or ACE, to post their program gpa and TEAS version V scores and keep others abreast when they receive an applicaton response. Here are mine:

Program GPA: 3.63

TEAS V: 86.0 (Date 1/15/2011)

Percentile Rank - National: 97

Percentile Rank - Program: 94

As we wait,....

@Tuahla- Thanks, gonna stay positive and expect the best...off to study I go!

Gay marriage can be a controversial topic so I think it would be best to balance opinions and facts from both sides of the table. If you choose this subject, just try not to offend the reader. If you reconsider, perhaps a social-health topic could work.

Alphagirl, the ATI TEAS study guide proved to be helpful preparation in my case. I recommend it.

I was hoping to apply for Fall 2011 as well but all the spots for TEAS has been filled! I was planning on taking it on 2/12. Hopefully it'll open up and I can take it. Otherwise I'll have to take it on 3/12.... then I will have to apply for spring. I still need to write my essay.. GSU website states healthcare issue or social issue? I still cannot decide on a topic. Can someone help me with some examples? Thanks!

I'm applying for Fall 2011 and I have a 3.54 GPA and a 86 on my TEAS. Hopefully this will be enough. Also I already have a degree in Biology from UGA and have been working in the healthcare field for the past 4 years on and off. Do you think any of this will help?

MSJ8208, I think your numbers are great, but everything is relative to the entire pool of applicants and each one's complete application packet. If you write a decent essay and have strong recommendation letters, you certainly stand a solid chance. GA State, moreso than many of the other nursing programs, rely heavily on scores; it seems to be something they hold their hats on. Scores may provide some insight but in my opinion, there is much more to a great nursing student. For example, excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills are key characteristics of a great nurse. However, GSU has no way to assess those skills without an interview. Therefore, let your essay and short-answer questions reflect a part of you. Tie in the real-world applications of your degree and work experience because I think they can be beneficial to you.

Hlee, today almost everything is either a health or social issue. You have many to choose from: healthcare reform, the rise of tuberculosis, teenage pregnancy, resistant staph increase, nursing shortage, etc. The list goes on. Pick one that you feel strongly about and go from there.

@hlee- I wish there was a way you could take my spot, I had to cancel my test on 2/5 and I'm now going to take it in Dahlonega (they had spots still open on 2/15). Their test is computerized and I was told that my scores would be instantly available. I would then just have to pay an extra fee and have them sent to GSU.

@alphagirl.. Yes I hope I could have taken your spot! But I will definitely not be ready by friday to take the TEAS anyways..

@ggallo. you are right. Almost everything is social or healthcare issue. I'm going to try to find a topic I can relate to. Thanks!! :)

GA State, GSU, Georgia State University undergraduate BSN Fall 2011 nursing school applicants please weigh in.

I'm planning on applying too but haven't finished my essay yet. I've been procrastinating because I'm not very good with essays. I've finished everything else, only the essay left. I hope to have my app in by the third week of January. My gpa is 4.0 and my TEAS overall score is 84%. I have applied to Mercer and Emory as well but am not sure if I'll be able to go to those schools due to the price tag. I guess I'll have to see what the financial aid pckg looks like first.

A 4.0 gpa and an 84 TEAS score definitely makes you a contender for GSU/GA State. You have a couple weeks before the application deadline which is plenty of time to write a good essay - one without grammatical errors, on a topic that's relevant today, and your thoughts flow cohesively. With a good essay and strong recommendaton letters, I think this opportunity is for you to seize. Good luck, let us know if you meet the March 1st deadline.

Thank you ggallo! My weakest thing would be my essay but I know I have a few weeks to work on it. I'm just kind of overwhelmed with everything rt now. I have a full load at school and at home. Oh, btw, when referring to TEAS scores, is everyone talking about the overall adjusted score? I will do whatever it takes to get my application in by the deadline. After this semester I'll still have 4 classes to take in the summer...not sure if that is a good idea? Are we required to have Philosophy and an Art or Span I. I took World Religions and not sure if that will receive credit. Does anyone know? This process is very stressful! I wish all of you the best of luck and hopefully we will all get accepted!

Yes, we are posting our overall adjusted TEAS score.

I took 5 classes with 2 labs last semester. It was tough but I pulled it off. I'm sure you know your capacity. Four classes is manageable but that is relative to school and all your other obligations. Know your load and don't exceed it especially if it will compromise your gpa.

Once you apply for general admission to GSU/GA State, if accepted you will be able to view your credit evaluation towards a nursing degree.
