@gsu11- Congrats on your acceptance to Mercer! It is a wonderful school. I haven't heard one bad thing about it. I was going to go there until I figured out that it would only cost me just a little more to go to Emory. Now I have to decide btw GSU and Emory. I'm sure you'll love at Mercer! I know several ppl that went there, and they absolutely loved it. I applied to all 3 schools since I didn't think I would get accepted to all 3. I thought, ah well, I'll apply to all 3 just in case so I'll have a backup, and wherever I get accepted, that's where I'll go. Yes, I have to admit, it's a good prob to have but now I have to decide whether I want to be in debt. Have you talked to anyone over in fin aid at Mercer yet? I'm sure cost is a concern for everyone, not just me...
@ggallo- I still can't get over the excitement for you in getting accepted into the ACE program! Congrats again!!! Whoo hooooo! Im sure the wait was killing you...lol. I visited Mercer too and I really lived it. When I got my acceptance there, I spoke to fin aid n they said it would prob cost me 24k in loans since they have very little institutional aid. 16k in Hope, Pell, GA equalization Grant was what I was given. Then I researched Emory & found out they give out more aid. So here it was Mercer- cost 40k roughly have to get (24k in loans) and Emory cost 80k roughly (tuition, fees, supplies, books, & parking) and I would be getting approx. 28k in loans. Oh & btw, I would've qualified for more aid at Emory if I was a "dependent" student w/parents whose income is low AND looking for my first Bachelor's degree. So if any of you out there fit that criteria, Emory will cover most of the 80k! There goes knowledge that's worth a million bucks! Hope this helps someone out there:) Good luck to you ggallo!!! (if I decide to go to Emory)
Hi guys! I looked on here earlier before I found out I got accepted, but I wanted to post now! I'm going to be in the traditional program and I'm so excited to meet everyone and get started! I have a question, though... I'm going to be transferring from UGA and I haven't gotten the PINS access yet. Should I call and see what's up?
@emmie856- Congrats to you on your acceptance!!! How many days ago did you turn your forms back in that confirm you'll attend? If it was very many, I'd call or email the department. I currently attend GSU so I walked mine up and she gave me access to the PINS while I was in her office, but then they missed authorizing me to register for the nursing courses so I had to email for help. They were super nice and helpful!
@gsu11- Whether you come off the wait list or not, you'll get a great education. You are in a win/win situation...not a bad place to be. Congrats to you again on your acceptance to Mercer--it's a fantastic accomplishment and I know you are proud!!
Thanks everyone!
@yayaccepted: I have talked to someone in fin. aid and they offer MANY types of loans to students. I actually got a letter in the mail the other day and was offered a very big scholarship because it will be my first year there. IT will cover almost all of my tuition! So now I am not too worried : )
@ggallo: I will be there tomorrow too!
gsu11-
Hi, I'm waiting for my acceptance letter from Mercer. Hopefully it wil arrive in the next few days. My admissions advisor there at Mercer e-mailed me 2 weeks ago and said they had just received my winter qtr. transcripts and would be moving forward with a decision. I have a 4.0 so hopefully that means I'll get in. I'm glad to hear you have been encouraged about the financial side of things. That is my only worry. People tell me that there is tons of money out there for nursing students. Congrats! Hope to be seeing you in the fall.
Hey guys,
So it has been awhile since I have been on. Trying to finish up these last few pre-reqs.
I'm super excited to start the program and just finished my PINS review last week. I've been starting to look at all the financial things...and not working for 15 months is going to be a killer. It sounds like we don't get any scholarship info until Orientation in August, so they really won't apply to our first semester, does anyone know if this is correct??
Also I'm curious if there are any other scholarships or loan programs you guys are looking at. This will be my second degree, and although I am still considered a dependent, my parents will not be paying for nursing school. Totally getting screwed over by the "EFC" number they assign you. Just filling out my FAFSA now, but I'm pretty sure I'm only going to qualify for unsubsidized loans and worried even that won't cover the year. Anyone else in this position????

gsu11: Congratulations on your acceptance into Mercer. You have much to be proud of. Mercer is a wonderful school, prestigious and rich with history, as well as a dedicated track record in nursing. Like Hamlet, if it wasn't so expensive, I would strongly consider attending. Mercer is having a 'Spring Into Nursing' session this Friday and I plan to attend. I'm excited to tour their facilities and ask questions about financial assistance.
