Georgia Highlands College Spring 2011

Published

Hello! I am an applicant for the nursing program at Georgia Highlands College for Spring 2011. I was just wondering if there was anyone else on here that is hoping to be accepted to the college as well. Does anyone know the typical schedule, cost, etc.? What were the average scores on the nursing worksheets that were accepted last spring and for this coming Fall 2010 semester?

Hi guys, Ive recently applied to Georgia Perimeter College and Georgia Highlands College to start taking my prerequisites. Ive been accepted to both schools but I am not sure which is a better school. It seems like Georgia Perimeter is a well known school but Ive heard a lot of bad reviews.. But however with Georgia Highlands I can barely find anything on them. If someone could please give me advice on which school they think is better from their experiences it would greatly appreciated!

See my long reply with tips to someoneelse's message. If you can't find anything on GHC, you must not be looking in the right places. Their first pass NCLEX rate is the highest in the state. They thoroughly prep you to pass that test. They teach you how to think like a nurse. Can't say anything about Perimeter other than their pass rate isn't as high.

GHC will not spoon feed you. There is online work not covered in class and it is tested at the same rate and intensity as in class lecture. You have to be self motivated. If your not GHC isn't for you. Not being mean, just honest

The teachers and staff are great and they all have years of practical experience. They want you to succeed and go on to higher degrees. They are approachable and friendly.

Good luck w/ your decision and if you come to GHC, hello. See you in the fall in the student lounge.

Sorry didn't see that prerequisites.

GHC. Only way to go. The teachers in the Sciences really shape the AP1&2 and Microbiology to give you a great base for the RN program at highlands.

******** rocks on AP1. It's his speciality. ********* is AP2 where emphasis is on physiology. ******* rocks Micro. It isn't his speciality (***** specializes in it, but alot of students don't like her).

********is awesome in all three lab settings. He will do everything to help you if you are honestly trying to do your best, short of bleeding for you. Do not study for other courses in his class including the lectures section for whatever lab you have him for. Lab can raise your overall grade or sink it. Pay attention, he can get you through those labs, with little tips and tricks.

Other classes.

1 use philosophy as your humanity requirement. Helps with the holistic approach in the RN program. It is recommended. it should be required and maybe in the future.

2. Take critical thinking will help with the nursing process thinking and how to think medically and efficiently. Not required but should be and maybe in the future

3. Either take or self-study Clinical Calcs and Medical terminology. Not required but should be.

4. Poli-sci/American history

Any other core required classes that you need. If you are decent in the subject or yiu think you can study enough to pass, you may want to clep those courses If successful it counts as an "A" on the worksheet for nursing currently. It also saves you from classroom time.

5. A's are the goal for the sciences. B will work, C will start to hurt you. D you wi be taken them over. Every attempt except the first attempt of each required class hurts you.

6. Grab the current nursing admission worksheet, from the GHC website. Get familiar with the classes you need and how the grading system works on the worksheet.

7 high SAT scores or (ACT can be translated).

Hope that helps.

can i please remind everyone on terms of service and not to post names of instructors at your nursing school, program etc.

1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.

2. while this site is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.

3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

Does anybody know where the nursing classes are held? I'm hoping to apply for next spring && i live a long way from rome. I was actually looking into the WellStar facility at Marietta.

to ghc2010: According to the nursing application, classes at the Marietta facility are only offered with the Fall admission. Classes for the spring admission are held at the Rome campus. I remember reading somewhere that only a small percentage of the students selected for the fall admission get selected to attend the Marietta campus.... maybe 40 of the 120 selected????

Hello,

I am new to this website, but love how everyone is so supportive with each other. I am currently at Chatt tech, but going to apply to highlands in 2011 for nursing. I was just wondering if anyone knew which classes chatt tech didn't offer that are required by ga highlands? I have all my biology's done. I am trying to take all my prerequisite at chatt tech, so my grant will pay for them. Any help is soooo appreciated. Thanks guys :)

Congrats everyone on your accomplishments thus far. I am a ghc student and graduate may 13 from the program. thanks and good luck!

Hello Everyone,

Am going to be taking AP2 this summer at Georgia Highlands College. Can anyone tell me if they have taken it before? Is it going to be the same amount of material to go over as what is in a regular semister? Am ready to apply in January for the Nursing program but I lack AP2 and Micro. Can anyone one give me good advise?

woo hoo... congrads! Any pointers to pass down?

Hello. Those of you that are attending or have attended the marietta nursing program...where is it? I am to register and attend the workshop there this week coming up and no where on my acceptance paperwork does it have the address for the site. I know where the wellstar location on windy hill is. Is that where the school is also located? I guess I can just call the nursing department. LOL.
