georgia baptist nursing school

hello. i'm from atlanta and have recently been accepted by georgia baptist. i'm still waiting on letters from kennesaw, brenau, and north georgia. does anyone have any feedback about any of these schools, especially current student??/

I have 3 kids and wonder if I will be able to commute to Cummings or Rome whichever I choose - they are both an hour from my house in Woodstock. I have very little time to decide which school. I would appreciate any inputs.

Sheri, do I know you? Did you take a Micro at Chattahoochee Jan.- Mar.?

Actually I took all my pre-reqs at Perimeter so probably a different Sheri. I sooooooooooo wish I was not on a waiting list for NGCSU. I am so afraid to go to perimeter college and that may be the only one I can afford. And yeah, Rome is very far for me as well. I wonder why they send out their letters so late??

Shukry - which campus did you get accepted to? If it is the Alpharetta/Cumming campus, I read here that they haven't announced a location, but it may be at the Lanier Tech campus which is off of Exit 13 on 400. About 15 mins north of 285 - well that is 15 mins with no . Good luck to you in what ever you decide.

I called the Nursing Dept. today, and they said they haven't found a location yet. They have 3 possibilities Exit 10, 12/13, and Marietta area. The schedule would be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Orientation would be Aug. 17th.

Okay, this is getting a little frustrating about NGCSU's lack of a definite campus site...so many people (including myself) are trying to make plans about where they are going to live, work, commute, etc. for the next two years -- and that's hard to do, when you don't know where you will be going to school! Alpharetta or Marietta?! It would be a lot easier if this decision had already been made by the administration at NGCSU, BEFORE sending out acceptance letters. Anybody know exactly what happened to close the Windy Hill/Wellstar campus? (Just curious, at this point...).

Regardless, I know we are all still excited about the program -- but it is still making it hard for those of us who are trying to move, find childcare, find part-time jobs, etc. Or, at least, it's becoming a little difficult for me -- in truth, I'm wondering if this lack of organization is going to be the norm for NGCSU...???...I hope not. I've heard so many good things about the program, and I SO want to get excited about this -- but it's becoming more difficult, the more in LIMBO I feel.

Anyone else feel the same?

I can assure you this is not the norm with NGCSU. Kennestone Hospital decided not to continue its relationship w/NGCSU because they are partnering with a nearby technical school to offer an ADN program. Rumor has it they have always wanted to do this in first place and the opportunity finally presented itself. This just happened in January or February. Instead of doing away with 40 to 50 positions (which they could have), NGCSU has been trying hard to pin down a new location so these students can still have a place to attend nursing school. Having said that, I would feel totally frustrated that the site is in limbo and I'm sure that everyone needs to plan their lives around where they will be attending school. Hopefully, they will solve this soon. You can be excited about the program though - it has been a great experience. I will keep asking, and if I hear anything concrete I will let you know!! :)

Thanks, Eagle Girl, for the reassurance. I'm still VERY excited about the program -- I feel it is a definite honor to have been accepted, and I can't wait to start clinicals in the Fall. I just wish I knew exactly where I was going and when. My house is on the market, and we were tentatively trying to look at moving to Forsyth...but if Marietta is still a possibility for NGCSU, then maybe I won't move to Forsyth, after all! (Ha, ha!) Oh well. I'm sure they are doing the best that they can -- and I'm extremely thankful they (NGCSU) didn't cut the spots and do away with the second satellite program, completely. I'll just have to be patient (along with everybody else!), and wait and see what happens...I'm sure everything will work out, in the end. Thanks for keeping all of us posted -- we appreciate any and all info you might can pass along. :)

I bet the technical school that is starting a new ASN program (in coordination with Kennestone) is Chattahoochee Tech. I heard a rumor that they were going to be starting up a new program -- but still haven't heard anything definite. (If that is the case, then that's good news for all the "potential want-to-be-RN's" over here in the Paulding and West Cobb areas.)

I attended Chattahooche Tech last summer and they were talking about a nursing program, but seem to be dragging there feet.

According to my Micro teacher in Chattahoochee, the RN program will start 2006. In both Marietta and Paulding locations.

I have finally become a member of this nursing forum although I have been actively reading it for some time. Can anyone tell me the cost of mercer per semester? I currently attend GPC, and am thinking of applying to their nursing program next fall because I think Mercer will be too expensive. I have heard some negative things about GPC from this site. Can anyone tell me what is good about the program and also what makes it so bad?

Here's the deal, I have a friend currently in GPCs program (where I may end up attending because it's the only affordable way cause I'm waitlisted at NGCSU). Anyway, he said it IS possible to succeed but you have to enter the program knowing that there won't be much "handholding" by the professors. In other words, they don't really care if you succeed so your on your own. In other words, you get what you pay for and a lot of people leave the program because they expected a more "caring environment." Their spring 2005 class started with 55 and are now down to 40. I also hear there is a problem with "disorganization" by the faculty. its ALOT of material so don't even think about holding a job. Your in clinical from 6am-2pm and have reading every night. The way I look at it, if GPC is my only option I'm just gonna go in preparing for the worst, join the student nurse association so I have a support system and spend my summer "preparing" by maybe studying the medical math problems, terminology and NCLEX style test questions and maybe I'll be o.k. It's gonna be "hard" no matter where you go but when its' all over, wouldn't you rather be $5,000 in debt vs.$40,000? :stone

So when it came time to apply again, I applied to KSU, NGCSU and Brenau. I was waitlisted at KSU and accepted to the other two. Since I'm an older student (41) I had resigned myself to the fact that I would go into something else if I didn't get in this year. I even have all my pre-reqs for NGCSU's BSN program!

Anyway, just wanted to say hello, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you regarding the waitlist. The deadline to accept their offer is this week (4/28) so hopefully you'll get a call when they begin pulling people off the waitlist. Good luck to you.

What a small world :) Although I bet that happens to a lot of people on this site. I think I asked you about North GA in thursdays lab and I mentioned about the waitlist. That was you right? I'm hoping I get that phone call for North GA but I don't think I will. I could be #500 on this so called wait list. I'm REALLY weary of going to GPC but may not have a choice. See you Tues! -Sheri

And yes, it is a small world. Well, let me know if you get a call back from No. Ga. I wish I could meet someone who is going to the Gainesville Campus. Heather, my lab partner in Micro, has applies to Lanier Tech for Dental Hygiene and she will go to that campus, but we won't have any classes together. It is always nice to have a study group.
